I agree, its time to start seeing some of these prospects ASAP before they get to old to be productive.

Ron, I simply don't think they're all that good and even if they might be they don't seem like they will ever get the chance. I'd rather see guys like Judge and Sanchez up here trying to see if they're MLB caliber players instead of rotting in the minors until they're 25-26 years old.

Rick, I completely agree with you but to me they're trying to justify ridiculous ticket prices by trotting the same overpaid and non productive lineup out on the field night in and night out. I realize it sucks that Bird got hurt but even if he didn't where was he going to play?

^^^yup, the farm system is also the responsibility of the GM...but Cashman has never had to rely on the farm because he's had a blank checkbook the buy mercenary FAs to plug holes...and the poor youngster who were drafted seldom have a path to the big league roster because those roster spots are clogged up by FAs who either are failures or are too old because they were giving idiotic contracts that took them way past their peak years.

...this franchise may never see another WS ring in my lifetime...unless of course, changes are made in management and/or ownership.

Vic for starters next season I'd like to see A-Rod put his mega ego aside & retire early, followed by seeing Bird at 1st base & Judge in right field.

Yankees could have made a statement last year and cut ARod and taken the $ hit.

That failure will damn this organization for at least a decade.

The Yankees made their bed with Arod and were lucky to get the year suspension where they didn't have to pay him. I wouldn't leave money like that on the table and wouldn't expect anyone else to either.

That's a tactical decision where a strategic one was needed.

...but that's exactly the point...taking the money they saved during his suspension and applying it to next year, they could essentially cut out the last year ARod's contract (next year) and cut him loose after this year...the net paid to him would be the same...or in other words, his contract would end up being one year shorter.
...they will have to pay next year's salary regardless of whether he plays or not...and if he's toast, cut him loose and replace him. If he's not producing he should not play, no matter his salary.

...and it's not really leaving money on the table because in essence the Steins already got a $25 Mil rebate on his suspension salary.

I was talking more about what Rick said. Arod is not going to retire and walk away. The Yankees can pay him to leave but the Yankees gave him the deal and it is what it is. If they want to buy him out that's their choice. It's not my money and they have certainly wasted enough of it over the last several years.

If anything, the Yanks could have set an important precedent and better managed their image to the rest of MLB and the fans. I'm more likely to shell out bucks to go to games where they took a stand and rid themselves of ARod, even if that meant a bunch of farmhands and a shitty team for 3 years.

But rather they chose money over principle. The team is still shitty, and the constant reminder to their lack of principle is there in the middle of the line up.

I lost a lot of respect for this organization after taking Arod back after the suspension. It will take a lot to regain that respect, especially without a face for the org like Jeter was.

...fwiw, I lost a lot of respect for them when they signed Chapman.

...not only that, but the deal they made is trading 4 youngsters for a partial rental for the rest of this season after Chapman's suspension is over, and the way this team is playing, especially the offense, a strong BP won't be much help.

last 2 years of deals have been beyond puzzling and maddening.

and agree now that linking cashman to arod, tex and c contracts by resigning for 3 years was a horrendous mistake on so many levels.

Meanwhile Theo went to Chicago and has put together a monster. The problem with those deals is that on one hand yes the Yankees don't win in 2009 without CC, Tex and Arod. On the other hand it's now 2016 and you're still dealing with their monster contracts and decline. Teams hopefully have learned more of a lesson now but you simply cannot give out deals like that. Let the people go elsewhere before you completely handcuff yourself.

...bingo.

...this is the problem I have with the way the Yanx have done business...I don't care how much a player makes a year because it's just money and it's not mine....but handing out 7-8-10 year contracts that take the player well past his peak years is just fucking dumb...and we are seeing the residue of that business plan now and we'll be forced to watch while it gets worse before it gets better.

They're not the only team to of done it but that doesn't make me feel any better.

Oh yeah, there's no way A-Roid is walking away. I'm afraid we're stuck with him for another season. But hey that still means we could open up 2017 with Bird at first & Judge in right.

A-Hole would make one helluva part time DH-ing Captain, kinda' like Pete Rose did/would.....? Give Him another 5 years, this guy is the face of MLB, and all that's good...

...ultimately, it's not up to ARod. Yes, the Yanx are obligated to pay him, but they are not obligated to play him.
