Welcome head coach Tiago Splitter

Watching Splitter coach he kind of reminds me of Jerry Sloan...stoic, unfazed, seriously fixed on the game. A no bullshit coach. Some coaches look more like highly paid spectators than coaches who roam the sidelines keeping refs and players in check
When Liam Neeson was trying to come up with the personality of his character in Taken, he modeled it on Jerry Sloan (probably). I don't see that in Tiago.

Tiago actually has what it takes. His success in the European league as a coach wasn’t a fluke. They didn’t just win their league, Paris was competitive in European competition. Can we get some Tiago Spurs highlights in here?

I don’t even remember who Paris had last season, but Tiago was part of one of their best seasons recently. They had some players.

If we do as well on this trip as I hope we do (4-1), Splitter should be in the early COY conversations.

I would go for that. I think he coaches as though he truly cares. It was interesting before this all went down, during the preseason and at FanFest, I saw him on the sidelines and wondered, "who is that? This guy definitely has a presence to him."

I don’t think he’s that guy.
I guess I expected this season for the team to look a bit more like they did at the end of last year. The defense was very strong. It is now very bad without Anfernee.

The defense for the last 3-4 games has been horrible. Good thing we don't judge whole seasons on 3-4 games.

You all are forgetting that losing Wesley and Thybulle to injuries have a big impact on our defense. When they got hurt, our defense has gone to shit.

Also having 1 single (decent) healthy PG on the team right now doesn't help. And having him sit out a game (vs the Mavs) really doesn't help either.

I'm wondering if there has been a delayed response to the absence of Billups. His presence was so strong for them, both on and off the court and I wonder if it's diminished their spirit some?

I'm sure the honeymoon period is over

I’ve been impressed with his coaching definitely see he comes from the Spurs. No matter who the Spurs put on the floor the seem to play within their system and always played hard. This team simply doesn’t quit and plays hard every game even in back to back when they are extremely shorthanded.

Something I look for in a coach how is he in key moments does he tighten up, does he bring calmness to team, how’s is his substitution patterns, does he leave guys out that should’ve in, does he roll with guys who are playing well even though the may not be normal rotation players, does he draw up good plays out of timeouts or end of quarters, does he rotate defense and offense at end of games, does he rotate defenses depending on situations. My favorite thing to do when coaching is if a team is struggling against your defense and other coach calls timeout then I change the defense so they immediately have to change their offensive set. Then couple of possessions later I change back to defense that gave them trouble.

Coach is switching up defenses with one of my favorite defenses 3-2 zone, even if it doesn’t work you’re disrupting their flow of their original offense.

Think he’s been really limited and would love to full court press again more but can’t since we don’t have players to do it right now

The Blazers looked nowhere as good as the Spurs when they played. Felt like they gave up that night.

I think he takes guys out too soon. He substitutes more frequently then any coach I have ever seen. We are shorthanded so maybe that plays a part in it.

Thing about the Zone is we end up leaving open shooters and apparently every team we play has amazing three point shooters. It works sometimes, but you can't go wrong with man to man with help.

Take into account we have tons of players out and yet we are in every game. We have no healthy pg and Jrue and Dame would dramatically make his coaching job much easier but since he doesn’t have the he’s had to make do and throw lots of different combinations of players and defenses out there to keep them in games. I think he’s done a great job and fact is we could easily have better record but lost 3 games on last 2nd shots.
