Or centers that actually have at least some resemblance of a post game?

How many of those are there? Hibbert didn't have a post game when he entered the league.

I am not on the ML bandwagon. In glimpses from recent video he has looked a little better. He doesn't have to be great, he just needs rebound better and defend as a backup.

No. A traditional post game (or some semblance thereof) generally involves being "set up to score".

You can't give Meyers Leonard the ball on the block and expect him to even consistently create a good shot. He doesn't have it.

It probably has something to do with practicing 3's too much. Thanks, Stotts.

Again ... how many centers in the league right now are dependable scorers in the post? How many of them were rookies last year?

You mean which one's actually have at least some sort of skill to score in the paint? Let's see.

Nene
Brook Lopez
Robin Lopez
Dwight Howard
Andrew Bynum
DeMarcus Cousins
Marc Gasol
Monroe
Pekovic
Vucevic
Hibbert
Al Jefferson
Al Horford

Then there are guys like Noah, Favors, Drummond, etc who aren't polished scorers but still play tough inside in the paint. Meyers Leonard obviously doesn't do that.

So 13, and I'll give you Horford and Monroe, who are more PF. Pekovic doesn't really have a post game either, he gets a ton of Orbs, though. Robin Lopez and Hibbert were more raw than Leonard as rookies, Bynum can't stay healthy, Jefferson is undersized, Favors LOL...

I think of ML as a sort of raw, more athletic Mehmet Okur.

:dunno:

Monroe and Horford have played center their entire career.

Pekovic scores well on the block

Roy Hibbert was much better as a rookie

Lopez and Leonard are essentially even their rookie years

Favors bullies opponents in the paint

Not that I want him shooting a lot of 3s, but isn't making 3-pointers generating offense? So, he needs someone to pass him the ball to score? You could say the same thing about over half the starters in the entire league. That's why guys like Chris Paul, who can generate offense for others, are so valuable. Even if you have a dominant low post scorer, you still need someone who can effectively feed the post and get him the ball in position where he can go to work.

The kid definitely has some offensive skills, they may not be THE offensive skills you want him to have, but the ability to shoot the basketball and make FTs is never a bad thing in a player of any size. And, a soft shooting touch is the gateway to expanding your offensive game. All the great footwork and post moves don't mean anything if you can't put the ball in the basket to save your life. Footwork and post moves can be taught, especially to someone with Leonard's size, coordination and athleticism. Giving up on a big man at such a young age is foolish and short sighted.

ML has shown some touch around the basket. I think the potential is their to be good in the post. It'll be fun to watch him develop this season.

No he didn't. It was either dunks or face-up 10-15 footers.

Just one question: why did a thread about welcoming the Blazers new players to town suddenly (and sadly predictable) degenerate into yet another Meyers Leonard bashing thread. Do we have to discuss this same topic in EVERY thread. Is this some new rule I missed? If not, can we try to keep the Leonard bashing in the appropriate threads. Shouldn't be too hard, there are plenty to choose from.

You wasted too many good thoughts responding to that clown.

Is it my imagination or does Lopez have some of the biggest hands in the NBA. The pictures make them look monstrous.

Funny, how the brothers are so artsy and love animation. I mentioned before that I saw them together at Disneyland. And how can you not love two 7-footers riding Splash Mountain:

Which Lopez brother is wearing the yellow polo shirt?

I'm 99% sure that's our new boy wonder, Robin.

I believe that photo was taken right after Robin learned he'd been traded to New Orleans.
