Let's hope that he stays healthy and continues to develop - he might end up being something special. We can only hope!

When you say special what you think his ceiling is? Like what type of player do u think we might have?

Clingan has been the biggest bright spot so far this year. Already he is clearly better than Scoot.

I wasn't high in taking him with the pick because a lumbering center isn't a type of players that is useful in the modern NBA. I accepted it though because there weren't any good options at #7 in that weak draft.

Him shooting 3s could be a game changer long term. Look how valuable it made an older Brook Lopez. Clingan is quicker than I thought and impactful inside right now which usually takes bigs longer to develop.

Sharpe injury, Scoot lack of improvement, not getting a future asset for our mediocre vets had me really down on this season. Clingan has been the one bright spot. He's basically the one player I'm really interested in watching until or if Sharpe gets healthy.

Not excited about Toumani Camara taking his game to another level on offense? (to go with his already hounding defense)

He's looking like a very different player on that end of the court. Firing off threes immediately instead of painful hesitation (a la Meyers Leonard) that we saw last season.

he’s a tool. He doesn’t like one thing about the blazers

You really gonna come on this board calling someone a “Tool”?
Seriously do you even know who you are calling a tool?
He’s been here longer than most and I honestly think you better reevaluate your stance here.

100% agree with @kjironman1. Reevaluation required.

Remember that Kevin Pelton's WARP stat correctly projected Jokic and Embiid into the Top 10 draft prospects back in 2014 (alongside Nurkic and Capella) and it did similarly with KAT, Lively, Holmgren, and Kessler too. It has the capability to find productive centers, essentially. And on his recent projection, Clingan and Edey were on it.

Meanwhile, my own finding showcases that college centers who have freshman production on par with Clingan and Edey were pretty rare. Ayton, Holmgren, Duren, and Embiid are the other ones in recent memory. Oden, Robinson, Hakeem are the others in the three point era.

12.5/8.4 Per 28 minutes on 60 FG% as Freshman is elite. To be that advanced as a Freshman center suggests strong production numbers down the line. Certainly, Ayton isn't the ideal center he was expected to become and Pistons fans express that they wish Duren knew how to play defense....but their current roles in the NBA are really a question of effort or mindset and not due to lacking raw talent/raw productivity.

For Clingan, we know he'll exceed at defense and rebounding. It's just a matter of what his offense is and if he can continue making plays. 85-90% of Gobert on defense with pre-injury Nurkic type offense can be a strong player on a contender.

It's like....We'll see what happens next but I think people were far too quick to write this draft off

$hit like this makes RipCityTwo tops for Blazers info. Kudos @MrDraftGuy

Maybe he is secretly related to Isaiah Hartenstein.

The Porrini/Clingan clan is an extended Irish/Italian crew, the village that essentially helped Bill raise his kids.

I’ll take it.

In all seriousness, he’s basically an elevated Joel Przybilla on defense. No offensive game. Plods. Is out of shape. BUT…..seems like an incredible teammate and will make our team better.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the regular season starts. I have a feeling he’s going to get a lot of fouls

Oh for sure. He's going to be a foul machine. Vets are going to bait him all over the court. That's what rookies do!

I think he's already better than Meyers Lemon. Just needs to stay away from spewing slurs while playing a game, and constantly posting pictures of himself flexing while blocking everyone who hurts his feewings online.

Don has a high bbq, Leonard really didnt.

I wonder if he would benefit from being Vonleh'd. And whether Ayton would go along with that

Couldn’t have picked two more different players that play the same position

Well, they both identify as white. Neither went to Syracuse. Another similarity is that the one with no athletic instincts would have still had none, even if he'd gotten Dan Hurley's coaching.

Yep, and honestly, you could tell from the get go that Meyers was drafted on the hope that he would have potential and that his talent would hopefully show you once in a while what he could do (but rarely did), and Donovan was drafted on the hope he'd reach his potential and he'd show it immediately (and has).

Plus, Johnny Bravo was an idiot.

What the hell is "an elevated Joel Pryzbilla?" Are you unable to provide a better NBA comparison to Donovan Clingan?

Joel Pryzbilla's career assists per game average was: O.4
Pryzbilla's career average rebounds per game: 6.2
Points per game: 3.9

LOL

Until Cligan falls in the shower and screws up his already screwed up knee he’s got nothing on Joel!

Don has a high bbq, Leonard really didnt.

Leonard had none. He had individual talent and pluses like shooting and size but had no idea how to apply it to the context of a basketball game.

I can understand drafting him in the late lotto based off that, but he really was a special kind of awful.

Fair. I mean Joel was probably much more athletic than Clingan, so you’re right. My bad

Przybilla's career average minutes was 19.2 and his high was 24.9

* his career rebound rate was 18.6%; high was 22.8%
* his career TS% was .568; high was .652
* his career block rate was 5.4%; his high was 7.6% (Ayton's career mark is 2.7%; Nurkic 3.9%; Plumlee 3.2%; Robin Lopez 3.9%; Whiteside 7.5%; Marcus Camby 6.2%; Theo Ratliff 7.2%; Sabonis 3.2%)

I would hope that Clingan beats all of Przbilla's marks. TS% might be a challenge

That’s why he said “elevated.”
