Were we just horribly wrong about Jrue Holiday? (4 Viewers)

Personally, I never questioned what Jrue would offer this team this year, assuming he stayed somewhat healthy.
I always felt he would be a great influence on our young guards. With Chauncey away from the team, he is even more important.

His contract in the next two years might be an issue, but I think with Dame and Scoot playing, he will not need to play as many minutes as he gets even older.
 
It has already been asked but....who is this "we" shit?? Holiday was one of Cronin's best "gets" of his tenure. If I have any complaints, it's that we shoulda gotten him several years ago (after he ate Dame's lunch in the NO series). He is the perfect player for this particular roster at this particular time. His maturity and leadership is unquestioned. My previous biggest fear was that we would trade him prior to the start of the season. Now my biggest fear is that they will trade hm by the deadline. He is exactly what guys like Sharpe, Henderson and the rest of a young team need in order to grow the "right" way. Really not understanding why anyone is in any way surprised by Jrue's performance. He's just doing what he's always done......and is worth every penny we're paying him for as long as we keep him.....

He looks awesome. But he did look washed last year. Stats all took a definite dip compared to the rest of his career.

Almost as if an older guard that went to the NBA finals the year before and continued to the Paris Olympics right after that (won both) - felts the ongoing schedule impact because he basically had no summer to recover...
 
I must have missed all the posts on here over the summer where all ya'll were saying that Jrue was gonna be playing at an All-Star level.

I guess that's my bad everyone! I need to pay better attention!

You guys all have receipts right? I'd love to go back and read what you guys had to say!

First, Boston would be a fucking idiot to do this. Sharpe and Scoot have not proven anything to make Boston think its good enough to trade Tatum.

Second, dame isnt dame.

Glad youre not the GM. Youd never get a trade done because youd be laughed off the phone each time lol.

After you are done with that, go read all the chest thumping about Yang. While I like him, i'm having some regrets after seeing Coward. I liked moving down at the time to get the extra 1st, but goodness. I have high hopes for Yang, its just gonna be hard not to compare him to a Asa Newell type guy and how he is doing. At this point I think Duop should continue to play over Yang.

It isnt that thst was what was being said. Its that, ar least for me, I dont recall anyone saying we shouldnt have traded for him because he is washed up. I remember there being potential concern but that doesnt mean its an automatic opinion of, “guy is a has been and wont contribute”
I think most saw/see the value of him on the roster regardless of his production efficiency.
 
I have no worries about Yang. He will get there. He’s having to play against Donovan Clingan in practice every day. Call me when he’s 23.

I am very impressed by Jrue and glad to see his tank is less empty than I thought. He’s the reason we’re 3-2 right now and I look forward to seeing him and Scoot play in the same game eventually.

I think like Deni, Jrue is just thriving in this system. He's driving the car like the allstar champion he is. I think what people didn't predict is how healthy and in game shape he is for his age after the wear and tear of being a career two way player. For Ant straight across he was an incredible steal! Jrue, Dame and Grant, Tisse and Timelord are great vets to have leading this team into the next era of Blazer basketball.
 
Yang needs an intense training program with lots of cardio and weight training. He's doughy compared to Clingan or Reath now. That'll change. He's already got more game than Meyers Leonard probably had after 9 years in the league. At least he doesn't close his eyes when he's under the rim. I'm kind of glad he's shown his rookie flaws early so the media around him will calm the fuck down and see him as a promising project, not Jokic light.

Agree, although he did not look too "doughy" in his workout video with his shirt off. He is surprisingly cut. But he can always use more strength.

While Coward looks really good.... I still wish we could have gotten that unprotected pick from New Orleans.

Yeah but that's what I'm saying. I think some people weren't thrilled with the trade because he has a really massive contract and he didn't look like the same player that he had been. I don't think most people were saying he was washed. I don't remember anyone thinking he was going to come in and look like an All-Star and THAT is what this thread is about. He still looks like one of the best two-way guards in the league.

I think the biggest issue was his age if i remember correctly. I think most people considered him an asset if we were to flip him, but most thought he doesn't fit the young team. I know im on record saying we cant have all young guys on rookie contracts and we need mentors/on court coaches to help develop the younguns.
I think the crow gets served to those who said he doesn't fit the team age/timeline, etc.
There are some, if I recall that wanted him flipped and still want him flipped by the deadline. I think thats hogwash. We have time.
 
I just wasn't sure if Jrue wanted to be here. Last time around he didn't. It's clear he is feeling good here and it shows.

I don't think thats the barometer in this scenario. And we have firepower on the way. If the option is to win it all this year or he must be traded, I believe that to be an unrealistic and illogical line in the sand.
I have said it sooo many times. The value of the mentorship he and skilled/hi iq vets can provide to young players is, to me, very underrated. He can very well end up our backup with less minutes next year as we continue to see improvements in the young guys. Its been my observation, most championship teams have budding young players with vets backing them up. That transition might very well happen.
Just think if Scoot/Shae/Tou/Deni/Clingan prove to be a top 10 starting five next year and have Dame/Grant/Jrue off the bench with the rest of our youth?
Im not writing that off yet.

with the caveat of health, I was 100% on board with the Jrue for Ant swap as well... & I don't know why you'd commit to years of a a mid-30 million dollar contract if you didn't have a thumbs up from the doctors. I saw him first at the MC as a touted high school player in the Nike Hoop Summit. He's never been flashy, his game has always been about efficient winning team play & great D more then highlights. Dude is going to make the HOF, he's awesome!

10 to 12 instead of 8 weeks. Yes i think that will be the case.
I'm literally on 12 weeks right now on mine and I can still feel it. Course I'm 60 but still.
