Wes doesn't expect to be back with Portland, is comfortable in LA

Wesley will go home to Milwaukee... in the gap left by Khris Middleton after he signs with the Blazers.

Its crazy and almost mind blowing how different our team could end up looking next year. "Fall in love with the team and not the players" indeed. Because only the truest of true love could make you wait 38 years to get laid (ie win a championship). Or for that matter 23 years to get to 3rd base (make it to the championship and lose). I would have been ecstatic to just cop a feel this year and make it to 2nd base (get the conference finals). In a worst case scenario next year we might lucky to get to hold hands.

smh at that fact that my whole analogy makes sense in my head.

I really can't see Wesley going to the Lakers. Remember they already have one rather important SG coming back from major injury. And Lakers fans are going to expect much flashier signings. The Clippers, now - that makes PERFECT sense.

"Dude--this Blazers chick let me get to third base twice in our first three dates, and since then, we've only even kissed three times! What a frickin' tease!"

Unless Paul Pierce goes there.

I've been a big Splitter booster but I don't think this is true. Splitter (like Valanciunas, actually) has plateaued surprisingly. Robin is certainly his superior as a defender (although Splitter is probably a bit more nimble) and Robin complements Leonard better.
say no to both, both plodding type dinosaurs, if LMA goes we need a more athletic type C who is a good rim protector and can play well with Meyers, I'd say try for Koufas and draft one

I can't LISTEN, I need WRITING!
He says it's too early to figure out anything. The team he might want to go to might draft his position or there might be changes with the Blazers that concern him. He's excited about being recruited by teams. Needless to say, I think the original video might be much ado about nothing.

Also, recovery is going well, he's happy for Steph, and will prolly hit Leonard's wedding.

Pretty good interview. He used to be anti Los Angeles and now sees the attraction. But hardly a huge endorsement for living there.
He is there for the rehab. Then will go back to Milwaukee. Going to Meyer's wedding. Portland players never talked about free agency during the season. Said it was still way too early to know where he would end up. Cleveland is better without Love.

I think Wes is just being wined and dined and will take the appearance money and bank it. He may very well sign elsewhere. I hope he stays but after Oden, Roy, I'm not sure the organization is anxious to gamble on comeback players anytime soon. Somebody will probably throw ridicuous amounts of money at him that we probably won't want to take on.

Wow... Really Wes?

I thought that cat would be buried in the Crimson and Black....

All NBA players rely on athleticism. If not they'd play just as well when 40. The difference is some such as Wes used every ounce of their athleticism to be just an average NBA athlete but combined with his skills he was quite effective. Reduce his athleticism and his skills alone won't make him as effective. It'll be similar to Vince Carter at the age of 38 instead of 32. He has the same skills today and some value on the court but is far less impactful on the game. I hope Wes regains all his athleticism as Dominique did but there is a very real chance he'll never be the player he was.
I meant compared to your average NBA player. He scores the majority of his points off 3s and postups. Plus lateral quickness (what is just needed for defense) doesn't really use your Achilles. And the fact you compared his athleticism to Vince Carters is hilarious. I've never seen Wesley jump over a center...

I'll name some:

Millsap
Monroe
Middleton
Carroll
Danny Green
Asik
Koufus
Aminu
Watson

Those aren't exactly marquee names but they're good players.

Or Hell, let's say we trade LA to SA for Splitter, Green and draft picks ('16+'18) and Batum and Kaman's contract to LA for Randle and 34. Draft Looney and Upshaw then sign Watson+Aminu. Re-sign Freeland and Wright.

Lillard / Watson / Blake
Green / CJ / Crabbe
Aminu / Looney / Wright
Leonard / Randle
Splitter / Freeland / Upshaw

That team could make the playoffs.
Millsap won't leave ATL, Monroe is overrated. The rest of those guys are role payers. That's my point. You can't lose 2 of your top 3 guys and make it back to the playoffs anytime soon by signing a couple role players. The biggest FA we ever get is Mo Williams, Andre Miller, Chris Kaman types.

Wook, try to look through your rosy glasses ya got on and tell me how that isn't realistic. That's exactly how its going to be if they leave

I think Millsap is a little over rated as well. Monroe would help, but isn't NY making him their Number 1 priority? I am thinking by the time LMA decides we will be late to that party.

If Wes doesn't come back then get as much as you can in a LMA S&T. Use next season to further CJ's and Leonard's development - I think that means keeping Kaman for another season. Trade Nic at the deadline (his value will be higher then than it is now). Preserve cap space for next summer - isn't that when some really great players will be available?

This notion is just silly IMHO. Look at our guard Frazier. He is pretty young so is Wes. Frazier had an Achilles injury in college. He is as quick as a hiccup. Most people we've seen with this injury have been older. Frazier proves that when you're young you can come back from it. I still have hope.

I think this scenario might happen IF LMA leaves. It gives them a year to assess a few things before diving into free agency.

I wonder how management values Crabbe. In his 3rd year could he start and bring CJ off the bench? Or can we get a big defensive minded PG (i.e Delon Wright) that would allow us to have a 3 guard line with Dame and CJ.

Can Leonard be our starting PF of the future? The key to that answer is who joins him in the front court. Either the center or sf would have to be adept at attacking the basket while Meyers spreads the floor with the two guards.

As for Nic.......the draft will be over so we can't use him for that. But maybe we try Toronto for Ross and #20? Grab Wright and a SF. Or take a chance on Upshaw. I think we get more value in the summer than at the trade deadline as it will give the team a whole season to win him over in order to re-sign him.

Frazier was 22 when his Achilles ruptured and he took a full year off. Wes is going to be 29 and likely is gonna try to come back early. With the way Wes defends, he may never be the same.

Shamelessly stole this from Realgm, but at the 24 minute mark they ask him if he expects to be back, and he says no.

Finally watched the video (3x). It seems he says "Ya Know," not No. After all he has spent allot of time with LMA.

Also I failed to hear where he says he doesn't expect to be back in Portland. I did hear him say "Our Team," however.

If Meyers is starting I think he'd pair well with Cousins (pipe dream) or Monroe. If it's Meyers/Rolo then we would really need a basket-attacking SF - there just aren't any that I like outside of LBJ and Durant. Which ties into my comment about NEXT summer's FAs: let's just sign Durant and Davis!

Lillard
Who Cares!
Durant
Davis
Meyers

A Monroe/Meyers front court would work well ......on offense. Not so much the rest of the game.

The way Wes defends is why i'm not that worried about his Achillies. He doesn't use his Athleticism to defend he uses his strength. Wes gets in your mug and is great at fighting through a screen, he isn't making come from behind blocks or chasing his man down. Wes defense is the epitome of defense by will and hustle.
