The irony of all ironies is Woj is reporting Wes was wearing Kobe Shoes when he went down. Brutal...

Don't talk contract value... Talk I hope you recover Bro....Next (men) up. Lets win everything for WM. Fly banners, crash cars, drink warm beer, get behind him....

That's what I'm saying man, this shit could actually end up working out if AAA can mesh. This could push the team to another level.
+> Thats the view. Its like a flesh wound in a Bruce Willis movie. Get on and take em out. Inspiration on the plate for the team to eat.

FUCK.

First off, I feel for Wes. No one enjoys the game of basketball more than him. And for this to happen in a contract season, that's awful.

Secondly, I feel for Rip City. This type of shit keeps happening to our team and makes me wonder what the fuck we have to do to win a championship.

FUCK.

I don't think we should bother signing anyone, because the playoff roster deadline was on the 1st. Meaning anyone we sign can only play in the regular season. Might as well get CJ/Crabbe ready for the playoffs over the next few weeks.

Wrong they only have to be cut from a previous teams roster by March 1st.

Did he say "hopefully we meet again" at the end of that interview?
I hope Portland signs him.
Obviously he's not going to get the contract he originally deserved, that's just business and he knows that.
I just want to see him get health and finish his career at Portland.
Even if his game drops off, he'd be killer off the bench.

This.

I cant even sleep.

Now win a fucking ring for Wesley and he can win another one next year because he's a blazer for life.

Ill guarantee wes will yell at anyone who tries to use him as an excuse to give up. It's time for everyone to take on his attitude and crush opponents

This really sucks, obviously.

It's probably way too early to try to put a positive spin on this, but here goes. Of our starters he was the one guy who is somewhat replaceable. There's obviously nobody who can do what LMA/Lillard do. Batum impacts in so many ways on both ends that he's not easily swapped. We tanked pretty badly when Lopez went down, because there's nobody to defend/rebound like him. But Wes, at his core, is still a 3-and-D guy. Yes, he has a nice post game (so does AAA) and he's a massive energy guy (so is Gee), and he's a great locker room influence. But the core capabilities he brings can largely be replaced.

From an emotional point of view, yes, this is just as terrible as Roy or Oden going down. He's the heart of the team. From an actual "help us win games" point of view, it isn't nearly on that level.

There's a long history of guys who can hit threes reliably playing fantastically next to two All Stars. Lots of open shots, because you are always the 3rd or 4th worry for the opposing defense. Even more open shots when you have a well-oiled offense like Stotts runs. Matthews played that role very well, but I think we're going to find that AAA does too. And maybe a few other guys too.

I expect Wes to come back because he's such a hard worker. I'm a massive fan. But I think his contract value will drop not just because his achiles makes him damaged goods. I think a lot of teams are going to look at how well AAA (and maybe CJ or Gee) plays to finish out the season, and realize some of his value is just because of the role he was put in.

I think that the deadline is about players who are waived by a certain date being eligible for the playoffs. I believe if a player is waived before March 1st, he can play in the playoffs. If he's waived after March 1st, he can't.

I believe if they sign a player who never signed a contract with an NBA team, he is eligible.

I could be wrong.

You're not wrong.

Wes, get well soon. Fucking A. That video too. :S

Anyone else wake up and go "Phew. That was just a nightmare."?

Son of a bitch.

Thats exactly what happened. That 2 second window where you havent remembered is great, but the second you do remember and realize its true is gut wrenching.

Actually, since I was not watching the game (just following the score on the Blazers app), I went to bed at the end of the third quarter feeling that the game was well in hand, and completely unaware of Wes' injury. This is a crappy thing to wake up to.

I think I've already gone through all 5 stages of grief, just reading everyone else's posts:
  • Denial: "He can still come back for the finals, right?"
  • Anger: "F#&%, F#&%, F#&% - and the torment for Blazer fans continues!"
  • Bargaining: "I'd give up my cartilage to bring Roy back!"
  • Depression: "I want to cry, but I just can't. :( "
  • Acceptance: "OK Afflalo--it's your time to shine."
That's why I love this forum--instant catharsis!!

I forgot all about Crabbe.

It seems like Stotts doesn't allow him to sit on the bench.

"Keep your ass back in the locker room, watch from there."
I think Gee gets all the time Crabbe will and even some of what CJ might get

Well put. Yeah, I didn't know about Wes' injury at all while watching the live companion while at work last night... I flipped on the post game and that's when I did hear it on the way home. Crushing.

I'm on stage 4 right now.

Paul Allen still has plenty of Microsoft stock to convince him otherwise.

Hmm...does selling securities at a steep discount to a presently inactive player qualify as a CBA violation? Quick, somebody get Larry Coon on the phone!

The basketball gods allowed me to get happy for a moment with the last 2 big wins and with another Westbrick choke job... then they ripped out my heart.
