@WojYahooNBA: Yahoo Sources: Russell Westbrook has pulled out of Team USA roster for 2014 World Cup of Basketball. http://t.co/o4fB602wxR

How much better would this offseason be if we got to watch dame play in the World Cup for USA!!!!

I'm conflicted: he probably wouldn't get many minutes, for one thing, and for another, I'd have to root against him.

All the team USA guys play minutes. I'd love to see this. He won't be overworked like Batum is since 12 guys get minutes. Team USA plays great defense and he could bring that skill back to the Blazers next season.

His withdrawal from playing for the team this summer gives Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers, and Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers a chance to make their mark on Team USA for future tournaments.

In the tryouts last summer, Lillard sucked compared to Irving.

Great thing about Dame is that he doesn't want a gift of a roster spot. He wants to beat the other guy out of a spot. That's why he's going to be great one day

Every young player that goes through this experience with the US team comes back a better player. I look back at how Steph/Love/KD/et al all have had career seasons immediately following a tour vs international competition.

Hoping for the same for Dame

I worry about him being injured. Especially with a possibly small window for our good core players.

If he wasn't playing in the tournament he'd be playing somewhere else. Injuries are a risk you just have to live with.
