What a difference - Bear Nurkic making a BIG impression

To say Nurkic is making a 'big' impression may be understatement after last night's game. I don't expect that on a nightly basis but it wouldn't take much for him to be a 20/10/5/3 guy.

He shold get 5-7 points a night just from the FT line. That leave around 7 made buckets of which 2 could easily come from offensive rebound putbacks. That means he only need 5 makes in the offense....seems very doable.

10 rebounds? Uh....size/fundementals.

5 assists? Harkless might be the receiver of 3 of those alone.

3 blocks? Teams might start shying away from the inside a bit after continually running into the Great Wall of Bosnia but he will continue to affect and alter.
I am over the moon about Nurkic just like the rest of us but that line of 20/10/5/3 has been done by 1 single person in NBA history (although twice). Can you guess who? Could he be the 2nd? Sure. If he is then he is a Hall of Famer though.

Never been done in the 3-point era though. I think there's a reason for that.

Oscar Robertson?
Nope. NBA didn't start recording blocks until 73-74, Big O's final year in the league. I doubt he was much of a shot blocker anyway.

Yeah while last nights stat line was ridiculous, did Nurkic actually show anything he hasn't shown the previous games? I would even argue he had better games (the okc game at home.) that's what's so scary about him. If he wasn't on the same team as dame/CJ and was the focal point, he could rather easily average 20/10/5. It's why I fell in love with his game. He truly is a 5 tool player.

Right now he's basically a 15/10/5 guy with 1 1/2 steals and 2 blocks (16.5/9.6/4.5 with 1.6/1.9) with a PER of 24.0 and a shooting % of .539 and FT% of .750.

But he's doing it all at the expense of his teammates. Oh wait, NO he isn't: OrtG: 113 DrtG: 104. We're a better offensive team when he's on the floor, and a WAY better defensive team when he's on the floor.

I love what he's doing it. I think there'll be a letdown at some point, but it will be offset by the fact that he's still not in the greatest shape, and only knows half of the plays.

Not to toot my horn too much but I was one of 3 or so posters that were really pushing for us to get him long before the deadline. I loving this! Just saying that 20/10/5/3 is superhuman and would be a huge surprise. But bring it on!

The question is not whether this dude is talented, but whether he will stay motivated.

I think the answer is yes. New city, new team, lots of talent around him, and he doesn't have Jokic lurking in the shadows taking all the minutes. I know it's a little taboo to throw around Jermaine O'Neal's name for every single player that goes somewhere and explodes, but it kinda seems like this might actually apply. Sometimes all you need is a chance to succeed. About the only player on this team he has to compete with for minutes is Leonard.... and we all know that's no competition.

Very good article. I like this line -

Nurkic is averaging 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in Portland, and he's a better fit than anyone could have imagined. In addition to post-ups, he's setting massive screens for Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, and he's crashing into the lane for lay-ups and quick putbacks off the boards. It's like pairing a sledge hammer with a buzzsaw.

And another good quote -

"It's not hard when I get a chance like this," Nurkic on the court after Thursday's Sixers game. "I'm here, I feel home, I love it. I just played minutes for the first time in my life, so I'm cool. I just want to have fun and win the games."

And I agree wholeheartedly with the last line -

For both Nurkic and the Blazers, and any basketball fan who's been watching them, the whole season feels different.

Oh yeah!

Would you guys hate a CJ + Festus + our pick for a re-signed KCP and Harris?

Its the one semi realistic trade that I've thrown ahead in my head that I kinda like for us as much as I'd miss watching CJ.

Oh I'd hate that. If we trade CJ, we better be getting an all-star back. Like a Butler/George or someone super young and talented (like a Jabari before the knee).

Not realistic.

Festus becomes 100% guaranteed July 1. Can't discuss re-signing of players until after that date. This is DOA.

Almost no way the next game against the Wizards has the same production but a constant big who actually plays big is just what this team needed.
