I know there's a lot of hype going on with David Lee situation and all, but I think it may really involve other pieces. Outlaw and Bayless would likely be good fits in a Dantoni system, the other major rumor that's been going on for a while is that Larry Brown really likes Eddy Curry (not sure why exactly), the other piece of that is supposedly Dantoni wants Diaw back a lot but I kind of find that hard to believe because his contract goes a year longer than the Lebron offseason, which they currently are stocking up room for...
I think Diaw would be an ideal fit for us (if it weren't for his nasty contract), but he's a great passer and a heady defensive player. He's looked very aloof at times in his career, but who didn't at the beginning of the year in Phoenix? Diaw's a real utility guy that could help us with what we need (rebounding/defense/shooting/passing) for a couple of seasons, and he'd be another frenchie to pair Batum with He could back up our 3/4 position and be a "flex" player just like Lee (but much better).
All this to say what if a 3 way sort of trade could work out? I think the pieces are there and while Diaw at the moment can only be traded by himself, in a month he could be packaged (and the Bobcats hate Felton too supposedly).
The other thing is that both of these coaches hate to play rookies or develop them (for the most part), we might be able to grab their picks for cheap (the NY one will be fairly high - around 6 or 7). If we got some extra first rounders we could possibly make a run at Ricky Rubio!
I'd personally do either of these trades:
POR out: Outlaw, Bayless, Frye
POR in: Diaw, NY #1
NY out: Curry, #1
NY in: Bayless, Outlaw
CHA out: Diaw
CHA in: Curry, Frye
Blake/Sergio
Roy/Fernandez
Webster/Batum/Diaw (though Diaw would get a lot at 3 now)
Aldridge/Diaw
Oden/Pryzbilla
with: Freeland, Koponen, two #1's, four #2's
#2
POR out: Outlaw, Bayless, Frye, Blake
POR in: Diaw, Robinson
NY out: Curry, Robinson, #1
NY in: Bayless, Outlaw, Felton
CHA out: Diaw, Felton, #1
CHA in: Curry, Frye, Blake (LB would like Blake a lot!)
Roy/Sergio
Robinson/Fernandez
Webster/Batum/Diaw
Aldridge/Diaw
Oden/Pryzbilla
with: Koponen, Freeland, three #1's, four #2's
so we'd be sacrificing wins and possibly playoffs this year, but our draft pick would be better, Robinson would be very exciting (and has chemistry with Roy) and at least plays with a lot of passion, and we'd have three mid first round picks to package in the draft!
