What about Kaman? (1 Viewer)

Yeah that definitely the most likely outcome, but if he stays because Neil fucks up, it's not all bad.

I'll be happy either way, as long as keeping him doesn't unexpectedly harm another move (i.e. we are unable move him later to free cap space to sign someone else).

Bringing back Kaman is odd to me. It makes me seriously think we may just roll with the Plumlee/Kaman/Meyers big men group down low and focus entirely on wings in free agency; plus of course one power forward.

Kinda odd, but I feel like it's for another move coming, whether he stays or not.

Well, if that wing is LeBron James, I am down with that plan.

  • For two months after receiving the player in trade, if the trade aggregates the player's salary with the salaries of other players. However, the team is free to trade the player immediately, either by himself or without aggregating his salary with other salaries. This restriction applies only to players who were acquired using an exception (and not cap room). (Also see question number 88.)

It is very likely for the Trail Blazers or Pacers to be under the cap and remove the need to aggregate Henderson's contract to make the deal.
Based on this, Henderson CAN be traded in combination with Kaman prior to 8/25, because he wasn't acquired using an exception. Batum's salary was greater than Henderson's and Vonleh's, so the 150% trade exception wasn't used.

Wow, if we add Henderson with Kaman for Hibbert, wouldn't that mean we can get Matthews too?

Hmmm that would be interesting if correct. Maybe BrianFromWA can look into it. I assumed the trade with Batum had to be done with an exception to match salaries within a certain percentage of each other.

Olshey kept Kaman on the books for two reasons, the first is to use him in a trade, or if he can't find a trade, then keep him as a cheap center to shore up our bigs. But, look for him to be part of a trade....maybe to the nets for Rondae Hollis Jefferson or better yet to the raptors for Ridnour.

If Kaman is still on the team next year, I hope he rocks a Bill Walton head band during games. It would be so marketable and help take away from us possibly tanking next year.....

Yeah he'll have to grow his hair out too...wait can he....ah he can just get a Walton wig and fasten it on with the handband

They needed an exception because the team would have been over the cap after the trade. They didn't need all 150%, but they needed the exception to make the trade.

Put another way, there are only two ways a player can be acquired via trade: by cap room, or by an exception.

You are right BrianFromWA. Of note though is that he could be traded without aggregating his contract number. Don't think it is happening though as it is not looking good for Wesley, Lopez, or AA coming back.

yes. But I was trying to find a way we could do that...our mix of contracts is kind of weird. I didn't spend a ton of time on it, but I don't think there's a way you can send out, say, Kaman and Henderson without aggregating them b/c of the 150% rule and make the numbers match. Just a weird case.

Yeah, I would love to see Loenard pick up on this, but I'm not sure he has the reflexes (yet) or the handle. Kaman looks like a slow, white version of Hakeem. You can see a bit of Hakeem and a bit of McHale in there. The amazing sense of feel for which side the defender is on and which way he is leaning, combined with the patience to put together moves in series.

Different player, but I would like to see Vonleh learn some of this too. He has better handles and could really be something if he could learn the spin and up-and-under moves with his arm length.

I've got to say, I posted the video as something of a joke, proof that there's a highlight film for everybody, however undeserving (and really, there is) but that one really is kind of engrossing. Kaman's got some moves!

I've said before that I cut a highlight video for Przybilla once. He came up to me the next day and said, "Damn man, you made me look like Shaq!"

True, but there is also a good truth in there. There are a couple of post moves that are just devastating that if mastered can make you an all-star. Watching a McHale video (yes I know his arms were freakishly long), he makes the same basic move, over and over and over again. Roll away from the defender, either shoot or if the defender bites on the roll, then up and under for an uncontested shot. Drill it over and over and over.

Leonard has the quickness and touch to make this happen. Vonleh has the quickness and arm length (and strong base) to do it too. I'm not as confident about Davis and Plumlee, but possibly.

Yeah, you keep saying it, but your continual failure to produce it makes us doubt you.

I have changed my mind. I want Kaman to stay and teach our young bigs for sure now!

I swear you've said this on here at least 100 times.

geez man. Yall are bandwagoneers. LOL . Ive been saying from the get go it would be a bad move to waive Kaman or trade him. He has sooo much to teach the youngs. If he never plays a minute this season, his salary is still worth it in my opinion.
