What are your beliefs on religion, god?

... then again physics hasn't been able to adequately explain "first cause"

most astrophysicists suspect the universe is eternal in one sense or another. the first cause thing is just assumption-based bad philosophy.

should be in green font i assume

which part is green font? That last "sentence" [sic: run-on] was a little bad. But overall, I was being serious that matter from energy makes me believe the bible would be impossible.

i also quite often get the 'feeling' that there has to be some greater purpose to why anything at all exists, but i know that is likely to be just an evolved or learned chemical/emotional response to certain stimuli.

I have thought about this quite a bit myself actually. Consider all of the people who believed in a higher power and it failed them. And consider all the people who didn't believe in a higher power and still died. It seems like it is a trait that is going to evolve (for lack of better words).

The Bible should be our constitution.
God should be our leader.
Holy war against all non-believers should be our path.
And death in the name of God should be our goal.

It could be that the Universe itself is alive. Not saying it's intelligent, just alive.

I can actually get behind this way of thinking. I mean what is true intelligence really? The Universe has laws that just didn't pop from thin air. To me this seems unlogical. An atom has a specific reaction to other atoms and they flow and attract in the same laws of science. I think that everything has some intelligence to it. Just because something doesn't speak; doesn't mean it can't communicate.

There was this one Acid trip I had where I was able to taste color, smell sounds and see the vibrations of atoms. It really put perception of just how amazing the universe really is. We are the universe just as importantly as a star. If we defy the laws of the universe; I believe the universe would fail. Every little particle to the most amazing complex organism has their part in this Universe.

it doesn't have to be about belief specifically. it could just be a having a sense of wonder about the universe and appreciation of natural beauty releases endorphins and releaves stress, lengthening lifespan.

And there's the classic Mags response! The laws of the universe cannot be broken. Law as we know it, is not a good term.

I was thinking more that if everything is made of energy or photons at the smallest level, and we are alive, then why isn't the universe? That's a super simplistic way of arguing the universe is alive, but I see the pattern of evolution everywhere, including the universe itself.

I am in agreement that the laws cannot be broken. I don't understand your response. Are you agreeing or disagreeing with me.

ok, wasn't sure what you were getting at.

although a theist in general wouldn't think god himself has to be subject to the laws of physics since he supposedly is a metaphysical being (who wrote them).

I got what you were saying. I was just saying how intelligence could be as simple as electricity attracted to a ground. That certain atoms attract with another. When certain reactions take place; molecules form. These same atoms can form quadrillion of different molecules.

Hmm that's a good point I hadn't considered!

Well I just thought your word choice was weird then. It was like you said "If purple ever starts being too salty, then it will be red." Something that just couldn't happen, but you still made it an outcome.

That reminds me of an article, I think I already sent you, about evolution of molecules because of conditions for bonds breaking or not breaking in atmosphere.

You mean smelling colors and tasting sounds? You are aware that it actually did happen right? Smell, taste and vision are all forms of perceptions. And you can scientifically see that a snake can see heat through it's receptors in it's tongue. Doing Acid will open parts of your physical self to observe things in a different perspective.

Synesthesia.

As far as god goes, there may be a designer, or their may not be. Who knows? As far as religion goes, I believe they are all based on ancient myths and none of them are literally true. I don't believe in anything supernatural.

You mean to tell me there is no such thing as superman?! NoOOoooOo!

Just thought I would post your link so iPhone users can get to it

As long as the Easter Bunny is real, most people will be OK.

No one can prove God doesn't exist. However, God has proved to me time and time again that He does exist. I'm overwhelmingly sticking with the latter. Without a doubt in my mind, I know that I was blind, but now I see. Which, by the way, reminds me of a passage of Scripture from John 9:1-25 (The Message translation):

1-2 Walking down the street, Jesus saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked, “Rabbi, who sinned: this man or his parents, causing him to be born blind?”

3-5 Jesus said, “You’re asking the wrong question. You’re looking for someone to blame. There is no such cause-effect here. Look instead for what God can do. We need to be energetically at work for the One who sent me here, working while the sun shines. When night falls, the workday is over. For as long as I am in the world, there is plenty of light. I am the world’s Light.”

6-7 He said this and then spit in the dust, made a clay paste with the saliva, rubbed the paste on the blind man’s eyes, and said, “Go, wash at the Pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “Sent”). The man went and washed—and saw.

8 Soon the town was buzzing. His relatives and those who year after year had seen him as a blind man begging were saying, “Why, isn’t this the man we knew, who sat here and begged?”

9 Others said, “It’s him all right!”

But others objected, “It’s not the same man at all. It just looks like him.”

He said, “It’s me, the very one.”

10 They said, “How did your eyes get opened?”

11 “A man named Jesus made a paste and rubbed it on my eyes and told me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ I did what he said. When I washed, I saw.”

12 “So where is he?”

“I don’t know.”

13-15 They marched the man to the Pharisees. This day when Jesus made the paste and healed his blindness was the Sabbath. The Pharisees grilled him again on how he had come to see. He said, “He put a clay paste on my eyes, and I washed, and now I see.”

16 Some of the Pharisees said, “Obviously, this man can’t be from God. He doesn’t keep the Sabbath.”

Others countered, “How can a bad man do miraculous, God-revealing things like this?” There was a split in their ranks.

17 They came back at the blind man, “You’re the expert. He opened your eyes. What do you say about him?”

He said, “He is a prophet.”

18-19 The Jews didn’t believe it, didn’t believe the man was blind to begin with. So they called the parents of the man now bright-eyed with sight. They asked them, “Is this your son, the one you say was born blind? So how is it that he now sees?”

20-23 His parents said, “We know he is our son, and we know he was born blind. But we don’t know how he came to see—haven’t a clue about who opened his eyes. Why don’t you ask him? He’s a grown man and can speak for himself.” (His parents were talking like this because they were intimidated by the Jewish leaders, who had already decided that anyone who took a stand that this was the Messiah would be kicked out of the meeting place. That’s why his parents said, “Ask him. He’s a grown man.”)

24 They called the man back a second time—the man who had been blind—and told him, “Give credit to God. We know this man is an impostor.”

25 He replied, “I know nothing about that one way or the other. But I know one thing for sure: I was blind . . . I now see.”

Not that I have to (or even can) go all proving myself to an internet message board, but I didn't come to Christ because I needed some type of crutch, or otherwise. I came to Him because I came to the utter and stark realization that I was a sinner in need of a Savior. That was over 20 years ago, and I have never regretted that decision.....not even once.

Of course Ricky Rubio is god.
