Why the fuck do we care about identity? Put the best people in the job. Period. I couldn't care less what their sex, race, religion, creed or sexual orientation is.

Hell, ill rep all players in this thread, all good responses

We always had identity politics in this country. The identity was white, male, Protestant, heterosexual (at least publicly) and upper class. No one called it identity politics because, you know, white male Protestant heterosexual upper class was seen as "normal". The way it's supposed to be. It's only when other folks start showing up that we hear "HOW TERRIBLE! IDENTITY POLITICS!"

I don't vote for a candidate based on his/her ethnicity, religion or lack thereof, gender, sexual orientation, etc. I vote for the person with whom I most agree. But I do like the fact that not EVERYONE in a position of power looks like what is an increasingly small minority of the country.

Givent the melting pot that is the United States, we absolutely need people of different colors, religions and sexual orientations as representatives in this country.

i wouldnt say that we need them, but it certainly doesnt hurt anything

just like i wouldnt say that we NEED old white men as representatives

I think this sums it up perfectly. It's not a need, it's more like... the statistics of our society should be roughly reflected in the congress.

I think we need to have representatives that show a good cross section of the population . . . including old white men.

There is a lot more to people than resumes. Different life experiences can add just as much if not more to a political debate as someone with a "pedigree"

yeah but you can have infinitely different life experiences as a hindu buddhist lesbian...rich immigrants that cant speak english, a poor american family living in the sudan, a physicist with parents that cook meth, etc

obviously i get your point though

A: Stars in a low budget fettish porn movie

A: People who voted for Barack

A: Groups that American white males support with tax money

A: people on the wedding docket in NY

yeah buddhist porn is a severely under exploited market

duh

but yeah the KARMAsutra is the belief that for every blowjob you give out, you will get sevenfold in return

And to me, it doesn't matter a whit. But you enjoy the wallpaper put on a rotting house.
