I looked him up on NBA.com and he wasn't there. Did New Orleans waive him?

He's out of basketball, I can't remember where I read it (I think it was one of the ESPN chat wraps?) but apparently he's got such a toxic reputation that even Euroleague teams said no thank you.

His contract ended last year and New Orleans didn't resign him.

He's an FA right now...might sign with a Euro team (his contract demands are probably too high or he would've already been on one...) or an NBA team looking for some help down the stretch.

Being one the the biggest assholes in the league finally caught up with him.

Bonzi's found a home..... in China.

TAIYUAN, Midwest China, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Former Houston Rockets' guard Bonzi Wells arrived China on Friday afternoon to join Shanxi Zhongyu of the Chinese Basketball Association league, the club confirmed on Friday.

The 32-year-old agreed a one-year contract with the club and the details of the contract were not disclosed.

The club manager Zhang Beihai denied a rumour of 80,000 U.S.-dollar salary for the former teammate of Yao Ming, the most famous Chinese basketball player in the NBA, saying Well's salary is around half of the amount.

Hey, wait a second. I thought it was the Portland media who gave Bonzi a bad reputation? :dunno:

Bonzi Wells happened to Bonzi Wells.

Let this be a lesson to you all you kids - being a total dickhead can cost you 1.2 million dollars a year.

NBA Minimum for 10+ years NBA experience: $1,262,275
Bonzi's current salary: ~$40,000
Difference: ~$1,222,275

Even if it is $40,000 per month - assuming a 6 month season, he still cost himself over a million dollars a year.

You might be able to say that Canzano (et. al.) contributed to the public image problems of a few guys, but Bonzi's dickheadedness needed no embellishment -- That's why we're just fans and he's in the NBA ... whoops.

He could be an asshole and be in the NBA if he were good enough. Point blank? He never improved his game one bit after coming back from his knee injury. He stayed the same or got worse at every aspect of the game.

His inability to play at a reasonably high level is the key to him being out of the league IMO.

He had a game for Houston last year, before he was traded, where he scored 20 pts in the 4th quarter. In the right situation, the guy can still play. And 40K for the whole season makes no sense. It has to be 40K a month. He doesn't love the game enough to play for that little.

it makes perfect sense if you're looking for an excuse to bash him

Dude is 32, which is about the age lots of NBA guards find themselves out of the league. He was never the same following that first major knee injury that saw him shift from quality player to mediocre. Asshole or not, I'm sure if he could produce he'd be in the league. He can't so he's not... whatever

I think 32 is the regression year, not necessarily out of the league. All SG's except Reggie Miller made a huge decline during their 32nd year. Bonzi may have declined but he still has talent to be on an NBA roster.
