Honorable mention to Arvydas Sabonis at #24. IF he would have came over in his prime, I think Portland would have had multiple championships. Would have put us over the hump in the 1990 and maybe the 1992 finals.

Good points. If Sabonis had come right over, I think he would win this vote running away. It would be a combination of titles won and getting him with a low pick.

Since we're talking 'What ifs' instead of reality, I gotta go with Oden.

How does this make any sense? Sabonis was taken 24th and had great years for us. If the ussr werent a bunch of d-bags, he would have been able to play just as well, probably better. Oden is a douche taken at #1 who hates us.

You serious? How does it make sense to base your answer on what ifs? The fact of the matter is he didn't come over in his prime, so voting for Sabonis makes as much sense as voting for Oden.

The guy was picked 24 & still produced when he did finally arive. Big difference over being taken #1 and being a total douche who left the team, didnt want to play for us became an alcoholic and hates portland.

Hahaha... Whatever, I don't care enough to argue. If you truly think, with hindsight being 20/20, that the Sabonis pick was the best in team history, more power to you.

Check out some of the old Blazer draft picks in the 6th,7th rounds..... It's awesome. They used to take guys from Linfield and Lewis and Clark and shit like that. I think Dave Winfield and guys like Carl Lewis used to get drafted as well.(not by us)

And Lucy Harris (only woman ever drafted by an NBA team), Bruce Jenner, Bubba Smith. Check out this short article on NBA Draft Oddities.

You act as if Sabonis was a surprise find at 24. He was drafted there because everyone knew it would take years if ever to bring him over, caused by U.S. Immigration reluctance due to the newness to all this.

?? I gave him honorable mention. I clearly said drexler at 14 was the best pick ever.

Seemed to pay off down the road considerably.

Ok, I will settle this once and for all.

The one we did not take.

2nd best pick in team history, well that changes everything... If we forget about Terry Porter at 24#, Kersey at #46 and Clifford Robinson at #36. I might be forgetting someone. (edit - I'd also include Walton ahead of Sabonis)

I'd put Sabonis about equal with Drazen Petrovic at #60. (edit #2 - & Zach Randolph at #19)

Petrovic barely played for portland.

Walton was picked #1, when I think of good draft choices im looking at steals that performed well for portland. I have no issues with someone saying porter

To find the biggest Blazer draft find (including those who played mostly for other teams), click on the Pk column heading in this.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/POR/draft.html

Comparing draft position to career minutes, it was #63 Kevin Gamble, #56 Mickey Johnson, and #53 Anthony Mason. For long-term Blazers it was #46 Jerome Kersey.

Moses Malone. We traded him away though.

I don't think we drafted him. We were assigned him when the ABA ended. His slow style was in total conflict with the upbeat Walton/Ramsey fast break. He was 10% the player Walton was and it really showed in practice.

I think Clyde was overall the best at his pick #14

Importance I think Walton was due to the title

Greatest scouting and picks (That is what it is abaout right? scouting)Sabonis, Kersey, Porter and Uncle Cliffy were great picks due to taking a chance on them

I think the Porter pick should get additional points since he didn't play PG in college. It still amazes me that a short small-college power forward became the best point guard in franchise history.

jlprk, your link gave me file not found - is this one of your jokes?

the question is best pick, not most efficient.
