Trading Dame, CJ, AND Nurk for draft picks and tanking...

IS A STUPID IDEA.

You don't know it's stupid because you don't know the results of this idea.

You don't like it because you are fine with this team being a 3rd tier team for the next 5+ years.

I'm actually fine with watching CJ,Dame and Nurkic. I like them, but i'm not going to pretend like i wouldn't trade them if i were the GM and i had to strive for a championship.

I'm sorry dude, i'm all for winning and i enjoy watching talented players play, but at the end of the day...Hinkie was right!
This is a "get rich or die trying league". If we know that this team is not elite and will never be elite and Olshey is failing at making steals at the draft then "blowing it up" is not a laughable idea anymore.
Hinkie got lucky. (Except that he lost his job and Embiid is one bad fall away from being Oden.) Remember the post-Jordan Bulls. YEARS in the wilderness.

I hate the idea of trading CJ cuz I know he can tear it up when he is motivated. Something has got in his brain that has taken off that edgy ball scorer mentality

CJ will break out of his slump and all this stuff will fade away...when his shot's not falling he doesn't look like a starter out there

I think this is the only reason to consider trading CJ if I were NO.

Well, it's not science. You can argue with the results, but you can't argue that the system didn't put the Sixers in place for getting future superstars.
You still need the right scouts and a lot of luck to get a dynasty team with that system.

Embiid trade value is very high right now, the can probably trade him for an all-star if they wanted to.

What was the last team that won a championship by trading it's three best players and tanking?

Not picking on you in particular, Jonesy, but guys who call for tank mode always assume that their draft picks are going to pan out perfectly. They never factor in Embid's foot problems, Okafor's knee issues, Nerlens Noel's health and talent issues, Michael Carter Williams' general meh-ness....etc. Drafting is not a perfect science and even the best picks take time to develop.
Of course, it's risky but rewarding. Better than the safe path to first round exits.

Just because it never happened before doesn't mean it won't happen in the future.

Personally, i would make an insane trade for a player who i believe can be a better centerpiece for a championship team and then use the draft to build a team around him. If the prototype is Dirk or Duncan then i would throw every player we got at someone like Porzingis.

If you want to believe in the power of the rebuild, I’m not going to be able to change your mind. I do think that you’re unrealistic if you think Dame is going to be down with a plan that sends the team’s second best player and his best friend away for draft picks in the hopes that the Blazers can get a stud through the draft and pull things together before his career is on its way down. I think Dame is as loyal as any player in the league, but there are limits. I think he’d push hard to be traded.

There’s certainly no clear path out of the mid-level the Blazers find themselves in right now, but I think that it can be done easier than a rebuild. When you have Dame, CJ and Nurk, you’ve got a solid core to build around. Turner has been a bust and the Blazers need to regroup from that by making a smart trade and by having one or more of their draft picks pan out.

Some young guys stay hungry after they get paid...others get that check and mail it in...it's always been like that....maturity more often than not is what separates the men from the boys....this is where I believe we draft well in Portland..

Well this is stupid too. And it contradicts your statement. Because you certainly don't know that that will be the outcome.

Ingram and Randle would look real good on our team. Last year both guys could have probably been picked up fairly reasonably. They have both unfortunately raised their value considerably this season. Not sure Ingram could be had the way he's playing, wasn't he close to being considered a bust last season? Lou Williams on the other hand probably could be had.

I'm not saying we should trade CJ....but we need a shakeup and I fear Mo etc won't land us as much as we need to make any serious movement. I guess we can wait for the bench to develop.

Dame
Lou Williams?
Ingram
Randle
Nurkic

I'm pretty sure i got the story of this roster by now and unless Neil will manage to steal the next Greek Freak i'd say this group will remain a 3rd to bottom 2nd tier team.

There is a difference between building on a bad foundation or planning to build on a good foundation.

If Neil picked someone like Mitchell or Kuzma in the draft then i'd have some reason to be on the same boat with you, but it looks pretty bad right now.
BTW: calling other people's ideas "stupid" is not very nice.

Fair enough. Is the emoji telling me to clean up my posts? :)

Unless they find a Giannis or Kawhi at pick 15-20, they won't make another 2nd round with this core.

Being I don't think the Pelicans will hear the names they desire for AD. (Celtics aren't giving up Brown + Tatum + young player + pick for AD)
Here is my little dream trade scenario.

Pelicans - CJ + Ed Davis + Vonleh + 1st rounder from Portland.
Knicks - Harkless
Portland - Anthony Davis + Lee + Asik

Works on the trade machine, therefore it must work irl right?

CJ could bring you a lot of top tier players in a trade...Lou Williams..Klay Thompson..Isiah Thomas...Booker...Derozan...his value isn't exactly peaking right now though...bad time to trade him and I don't see him traded until at least half his contract is up here

NO will never trade their franchise player

NO will never trade their franchise player

And if they were to, they would get much better offers than a decent shooting guard who doesn't defend, an expiring short center, a young power forward and a mid-first pick.

Boston would blow this offer out of the water. They will have a top 5 pick either this or next year (depends when LAL or SAC pick conveys), they have another extremely valuable pick from Grizzlies (protected 1-8 next year, 1-6 in 2020 and unprotected in 2021) who are going to be a struggling team for a while and could deliver them a good draft spot. Those are much better assets if you are trying to rebuild. Then they also have Brown and Tatum on long deals and could tie Marcus Smart to one if they want to, if it's for Anthony Davis they could flip even the most valuable of them (although I think Tatum is untouchable). Brown is an amazing trade asset IMO.

We should look at Orlando as our main trade partners for CJ. They need someone like him and they have the assets that could interest us. Fournier, Vucevic, Hezonja and their 2018 pick does that for me, comfortably.

I assume you only mean a combination of some of those--all four would be an insane return for a non-all-star.

DET seems as a good trade target with players like Bradley and Tobias Harris
