Zombie What is the Best Offer We Could Get for C.J. McCollum?

How do we know Olshey wouldn't trade CJ? Because he said it to the press? That means nothing. I wouldn't over react to any public claims made by Neil Olshey. Or even react.

That seems to be the norm in here as some hang on every letter, every sentence word and every sentence that Olshey says to the public. What GM's and coaches say in public is often very different than what they are actually thinking. Sometimes when teams say they won't trade so and so, it's done to get the message out there that you better come with a hell of an offer.

IIRC, didn't Olshey once trade Eric Gordon within days of personally telling him he would not?

Yes, after trading Marcus Camby hours after telling him he was essential to the franchise... traded him while he was in Portland on a sponser's trip!

Camby said “it was kind of shocking” when he first heard of the trade Monday night, because he was in Portland with the Clippers at a sponsor's dinner. “I only brought one change of clothes,” said Camby

So there, we have actual proof that even when he was GM for the Clippers he was trying to help the Blazers. :devilwink:

"You have not affected the winning percentage of this team"

You mentioned Golden State giving up on Monta Ellis - why isn't that exactly the same thing? By your reasoning, Golden State should've stuck with Ellis.

Now, of course they got VERY LUCKY. But give me an alternative analogy where you think a team should've stayed with what looked like a flawed "core."

Who's our Klay Thompson?

Exactly. He doesn't exist. This is why you don't trade CJ.

The way @BonesJones and @hoopsjock talk about him, seems like they think Mikal Bridges could be. If a CJ trade nets him in return, do you reconsider your position?
I actually think Mikal Bridges would be better on the current roster with CJ than as a CJ replacement. That is why a CJ trade and the TPE should be used to not only get Bridges but to bring in another decent wing too.

The people doing the podcast don't say that they believe this because Olshey said it.

Lillard is our Klay Thompson. That's not the problem. The problem is we don't have a Steph Curry.

Lillard is not our Klay Thompson. CJ is our Monte Ellis.

Golden State selected the 6-foot-3-inch (1.91 m) Curry in the first round of the 2009 NBA draft with the seventh overall pick.[7] Although the Warriors already had another lean, 6-foot-3, offensive-minded guard in Monta Ellis, Coach Don Nelson had a penchant for using small lineups in his Nellie Ball system, and had warmed to the idea of selecting Curry.[8][9] However, Ellis announced at a media session that he and Curry were too small to play together.[1][10] Two years later, while Curry and Ellis were still adjusting to each other, the Warriors added another scoring guard in the 6-foot-7-inch (2.01 m) Thompson, who they drafted in the first round with the 11th overall pick in 2011.[1][7] Curry and Thompson had limited time together in their first year as teammates; the 2011–12 season was shortened to 66 games because of the NBA lockout, and Curry missed 40 games due to injuries.[11] Towards the end of the season, Golden State traded the fan-favorite Ellis in a deal for centerAndrew Bogut, leaving Curry to lead the team and opening the shooting guard position to Thompson, who provided needed size to their backcourt.[1][12][13]

Hmmmm.

And, Bridges' current mock position could line him up with Cleveland or NY, both of whom I could see coveting CJ. Not sure how the Cavs see Love right now, but CJ for Love and Bridges could be nice.

If he falls to NY, you might be able to get Ntilikina and Bridges and more if you take back Noah. That would be some prime defensive talent a few years from now.

I am completely pro Trade CJ. And I like CJ. But the small back court that isn't very good defensively wont work to get to next level and CJ is too valuable of a trade chip. Need a bigger guard back who defends. I could also see moving Damian to the 2 and letting him be a Donovan Mitchell role. Let Dame be the scorer he can be and let someone play point and defend the other team's best guard. Like an Avery Bradley type role (although he isn't big either)

This is why I would be pushing so hard for Middleton with the TPE. He's bigger than CJ and a legit defender. Then do the CJ and 24 for Love and Bridges trade.

Dame at PG
Middleton, Harkless, Bridges, Aminu on the wing
Love, Nurk, Collins, Davis as the bigs.

Now that would be a good team plus Nurk and the wings could hide Love and Dame's defense.

Who's the backup guard in this scenario?

I'd want to trade Aminu for a backup combo guard that could create their own shot in this scenario. (maybe include Aminu and Layman for Clarkson in this deal?)

To Orlando if they fall out of the Top-3. Below Top-3, they may be open to moving their pick. CJ/Aminu/Swanigan and a swap of 1st round picks Fournier, Isaac, Mack and draft Michael Porter.

I couldn't see Orlando giving up Isaac AND a top 5 pick for CJ.

We'd still have Turner and Baldwin. We could also re-sign Napier. I think Aminu might be valuable to have at the trade deadline.

I think he'll be more valuable now.. his contract is very good so, in my opinion, the longer he has on it, the more valuable it is.

That seems like a lot of wishful thinking but for a shooting guard, Henderson would be a player to explore as he would likely come cheap for a year at least (as long as he checks out healthy)
