What is the plan to fix this shit team?

Othmann is getting 7 minutes of ice time a night that’s not fucking opportunity dope. He’s playing with guys that have no offensive ability. Othman’s consensus in the scouting ability was he had perhaps the best shot in his draft class. He’s had no problems, scoring goals in the AHL playing with rejects. The Rangers are fucking morons. You play a player like him 18 minutes a night and put him on the power-play but they never do that. That’s why they fucking blow.

The book on Othmann was he needed to work with a skating coach I haven’t heard one fucking thing about that since they drafted him.

Drury wouldn’t know how to evaluate talent if his life depended on it.
Porter
You do know that Othmann was his pick?

Brennan is actually getting less minutes per game this year because Sullivan sees the same lack of effort I see. Othmann has 37 goals in 135 games with the Pack but he was a prolific scorer as a 16 year old and I agree his skating needs work too but he has to want to fix it. You're missing my point Step, if the 20 members of the Rangers scouting staff said Wyatt Johnston is the guy but Drury went against them and took Othmann I would 100% agree that he's incompetent but I don't believe that's the case. I want Othmann to succeed like every other Ranger but he seems to fall into the mold of undersized, average skill and skater that the Rangers scouts drool over.

So, it's the scout's fault when Drury makes a bad pick. When the clear and obvious every single team in the NHL would have taken Lafreniere # 1 and Kakko # 2 in their drafts, then it's Gorton's fault. That's an interesting perspective Panzer.

My take, I don't get on Drury for his drafts, that's a team effort (scout's etc.), it's the rest of his job he is god awful terrible at, that's what I get on him for. I also don't get on Gorton for taking Lafreniere and Kakko for the same reasons, double so when EVERY SINGLE TEAM would have taken them where the Rangers did.

I wrote the exact opposite Chuck, all Rangers GMs have sucked at drafting so the scouting department has to have some culpability. What would you attribute that constant, decades long failure to? Bad luck or are GMs getting bad data? I would hope the scouting team looked at Stutzle and others but sadly you may be right and since Laf was the obvious pick they didn't scout anyone else in the top tier. The difference with Gorton was he went away from the obvious pick and played hunches that didn't work out more than once. Didn't scouts compare Laf to Crosby? Why not if there are no repercussions? The bottom line is if the Rangers are going to rebuild by trading players for picks that will be made using shitty data from incompetent scouts it might explain the consistent failure to win the Cup regardless of the GM or coach.

Other teams have inquired about Othmann. That tells you all you need to know. They believe the Rangers are fucking stupid developing forwards and they are.

I will not get on anyone really for Lafreniere or Kakko as they were the clear picks by every team/scout when they were drafted 1 and 2 in their drafts, people even called it the Lafreniere draft when the Rangers won the lottery. I also agree the Rangers scouts have not done a good job.

Where you lose me is the caveat you add for your Drury positive and Gorton negative biases. Gorton played hunches many times, as if you know what the Rangers scouts said and where they had the players ranked, but for Drury it's the scout's issues period end of story.

At this point the Rangers are where they are though, a bad team, with no real top kids coming up through the organization, outside of maybe Perreault, and not bad enough to get a top 2 or 3 pick. It is not a good place for an organization to be, but it's where they are. It's also why Drury should be fired immediately, and the Rangers should be sellers immediately, but neither will happen with this poorly run organization.

Even if Kakko, Andersson and Kravtsov became league average we'd be in decent shape. The fact that basically none panned out is crazy. Can't get on them for KK or Kravtsov who I liked, but I never liked the Andersson selection.

What’s more crazier is what they got for those three guys in return lol basically just Cuylle and some peanuts. Who is responsible for at least two of those trades? Chris Drury!

Look, by any fair and objective measure Drury has been absolutely horrific at his job in every single way. That's the way it is, and no amount of spin or wearing rose-colored glasses can change the facts of the Chris Drury tenure!!!

Which BTW, I don't see ending anytime soon sadly.

Not only are people still watching the NBA it is far more popular and profitable than the NHL in this and almost every other country on the planet.
I can't remember the last time I purposely sat through an entire NBA game, I also find it completely unwatchable but, there are far more NBA fans than NHL fans.

Yup, it's not even close. Also, look how MSG treats them, if the Knicks and Rangers are on at the same time, the Knicks are ALWAYS on MSG while the Rangers get moved to MSGPlus or some other MSG station. That's because the Knicks are the much bigger draw/get much better ratings.

Happy New Year! Simple question to Chuck and the Drury haters - who's your replacement and how is he going to do things any differently than his predecessors? It's very easy to blame organizational failure on an individual and in the case of Gorton (who was far worse than Drury by any fair and objective measure) Drury was an upgrade but apparently not the solution. Drury didn't come in and fail to uphold a longstanding Rangers winning tradition, one Cup in 86 years with all the resources available to any GM makes me think the organization needs to freshen up their philosophy, too many draft picks fail to make the NHL. Sportsnet did an article studying NHL drafts from 2010-2019 and how many of those players selected logged 200 or more NHL games, the Rangers had 9 of their 60 selections hit that criteria putting them at 29th. This number was skewed by Sather's love of trading away high picks but it shows drafting has been an issue for decades.

Happy New Year!!

1. The comparison you make often between Gorton and Drury is also perplexing to me. Even if I say Drury is better than Gorton, which I happen to think is debatable as I'd say both are/were bad at their job, should that be the measure of Drury's job performance after he has been in the role for years and has gone through multiple coaches? It's not are you good at your job, which Drury very obviously clearly is not, it's are you better than the person who had the job before you. That's a very strange way to measure someone's job performance IMO, especially when the person who had the job before you got fired due to poor performance. After a fair/reasonable amount of time, which Drury has clearly had, I prefer to judge people on their own merits, not in comparison to their predecessor, who again was fired due to poor performance. So, your argument is Drury should keep his job for years and be allowed to cycle through multiple coaches, because he is less bad than his predecessor...I don't think that's the best way to judge job performance.

2. The who do you propose to bring in argument makes no sense to me for two reasons. First, do I/we know who the GM candidates are around the NHL? Who are the up and comers, the good assistant GM's ready for a bump up, the current GM's ready for a change of scenery, the guys in different roles now ready for the next step. For example, who is in the Panthers organization supporting Zito in his role? Maybe that person is ready, don't know, but it's not my job to know, it is Dolan's (or someone he would pay to assist in the GM search) job to know. Second, again we have an interesting bar to cross. Drury, you are terrible at your job, but I'll keep you because I am not sure who would do better than your terrible performance. That seems like an odd reason to keep someone who is doing poorly, and cycling through coaches, in their job. How much worse can the next guy really be is my take. And this is crazy to say, but in the short-term, maybe worse is better so we truly bottom out.

Bottom line, Drury absolutely sucks in his roles (remember he is Pres & GM), and I am highly confident with a little research the Rangers can get someone better. That is not a high bar to cross IMO.

And BTW, we agree 10000000000000000000%, the Rangers organization sucks and has for decades and decades, no debate there. The big issue is Dolan, but he isn't going anywhere unfortunately. So, with that as a "given" the next best thing is to hope Dolan hires a top Pres/GM, which Drury is 800 miles away from being.

The Rangers haven't had that guy in a VERY long time. The Knicks hadn't had that guy either since Riley/Van Gundy, but now they do in Rose, and look at the results. You don't hear a lot about Dolan screwing up the Knicks these days like you did from Riley/Van Gundy until Rose, and that's because he finally hired the right guy.

The Rangers need Dolan to hire that right guy, and it starts with Sather being 1000000000% gone. It's not a coincidence to me the Rangers have been pretty much terrible, outside of a few seasons, the whole time Sather has been here/had influence, which includes influence on the Drury debacle. Sather needs to be gone 100%, and Dolan needs to get a good smart support system in place to help hire a new competent Pres/GM, similar to Rose being hired to lead the Knicks, and watch the Rangers flourish once/if that happens.

Ranger fans deserve better than Drury sucks, but he's better than Gorton OR who else would you hire if not Drury. That's not the right WINNING way to handle any of this IMO, which is why Drury is still here, and will be a for a LONG time I fear, because Dolan sucks.

I like the old Canadians GM as a replacement. I mean, you pretty much can't do worse that dickhead Drury at this point. I really don't think so.
