Two decent picks in this deep draft are worth more than another quick exit from the playofffs.

We can make the playoffs and still have two decent picks. And why do you insist we'll have another quick exit if we get there? People thought the Mavs were losing in the first round last year. And everyone thought the Lakers were winning the West. Well Dallas beat us, swept the Lakers and waltzed to the championship. Are we the Mavs? No. But we have our own attributes that we bring to the table and there's no reason why we can't make noise. If everyone's on the same page and in a positive frame of mind, anything's possible. Knicks made the Finals from the 8 seed.

That Knick team was awesome compared to us.

Why'd we bother trading for Hasheem and Jonny if we're not going to let them audition this year? They both have team options that relatively substantial. The fans want to see them, and I think the team is better off evaluating them now.

Because our coach wants to prove he can win so he'll play the guys who have the best chance of getting him the W. I totally understand why he's doing it, but his best interest and the team's best interest are not one in the same.

Nothing. It's asinine that we are still playing our vets so many minutes. None of them will be here next year anyway

I have to agree, the young guys, good or bad, all of them should be getting 15-20 minutes every game

The fact that Flynn got... what..... 3.5 minutes last night is just stupid. I can understand if Coach K is wanting him to learn the "system", but they need to throw the kid in and see if he can swim. We don't have very many games left to do a proper tryout.

You shouldn't be so quick to Judge. Felton was thrown into an impossible situation with Nate 's head up his ass in a new offense that he practiced for two weeks. Craword should opt out if the Blazers suck balls. But guess what, the Blazers aren't about to Tank on purpose, sorry to burst everyone's bubble. If the Draft goes well, this year and/or next, were gonna want all the veterans possible to develop the new young guns.

I gave Felton about twenty games or so before I wrote him off. He was thrown into a difficult situation but not impossible ... more important to me though was how he reacted. Not only did he report to training camp fat and out of shape but did he show any kind of professionalism? Did he show any kind of grit? Did he put his head down and advance? Nope, nope, and nope. He did nothing but retreat and cast about for others to blame when things got tough.

The fact that he's suddenly "rejuvenated" and is playing like a semi-competent basketball player again is actually more damning to me than if he was still struggling because it tells me that he mailed it in rather than try to make it work. He's the worst sort of player for this team moving forward because you will never be able to trust him again to be a pro and to truly compete when things get tough again. All of these stats he's putting up are hollow -- total fool's gold. Move on and get a real competitor.

Whether you like Nate McMillan or not, there's no excuse for two of your key players to tank intentionally to get the guy fired, and that's exactly what Felton and possibly some other players appear to have done. Fuck that guy. Get him off our team.

If you guys wanted tanking, you should have been upset that Nate was fired. He would have lead us to the lottery.

Apparently, the Blazers didn't get the memos you tankers have been sending them:

The Blazers have been left for dead by pundits and much of their fan base, which is hoping for a quick rebuilding job with a couple of high draft picks. But the players and the coaches in the locker room have insisted since the Big Blow Up went down that they have every intention of competing for the playoffs.

"We have 19 more games and when I watch the standings on NBA.com ... there's a little cross that means you're (not) in the playoffs," Batum said. "We don't have this cross right now. So that means we can be in the playoffs. And we believe in it."

Felton is a bridge too far. He is the epitome of unprofessionalism. They need to burn that cancer out of the locker-room with thermite.

Wow, you should really see a counselor about that grouch.

I gave Felton about twenty games or so before I wrote him off.

Thanks for admitting that. The past is the past and for how bad he's been it doesn't define him going forward. He has the capability of being a solid PG, and would not be surprised at all if he's a Blazer next year.

Good for them! Fuck tanking!!!!

It's for losers. Period.

The goals of the front office and the goals of the players are 2 different
things. In this case, that's a very good thing. Players should never try
to tank. However, it may be prudent for front offices to sometimes.
The front office had a chance to give Felton away for nothing. They
chose not to. The "tanking" decision has been made. Really, that's the
end of the story.

What are they supposed to say?

"Tank tank tank baby," said Batum. "It's time to stink this mother up so we can get the best lottery pick possible."

Tunnel vision much? You really think that getting the 11th pick vs the 16th or so is going to make a hill of beans difference in the Blazers' rebuild? Draft history is replete with 11th pick busts and 16th pick bargains. After the first 4 or so picks, it's a crap shoot as to whether a player will pan out. There's also the ability to make draft day deals to move up to get a player you want. I'll take LA and Nic making some major strides in their evolution as the Blazers' leaders by trying to win games the rest of the way out over the demoralizing process of playing to lose in order to gain a few spots in a draft. If/when the Blazers get to the point where they're mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, sure play the the young guys and let the vets eat popcorn. Until then, play to win.

Well, it's like I said, I think Canales was a bad choice. The guy has too much to prove. I know that sounds ridiculous, but we needed a fall guy. Someone who didn't care if they won or lost. I'm not saying intentionally lose games or shave points or whatever. I'm talking about putting a team on the floor that benefits our future, not our present. How does playing Felton or Crawford benefit our future? If anything, they're hurting it because they're playing better. If we happen to lose more games behind Flynn, Babbitt, etc, so be it.

The best example of a tank was when Gregg Popovich fired Bob Hill during the season they lost David Robinson, and took over as coach himself. I mean, how obvious can you get in a tank job? The idea was to get Tim Duncan, and Popovich, the GM, named the one coach he knew would go along with a tank job ... HIMSELF!! It was brilliant, and look what became of San Antonio's franchise after that season.

Problem is, Paul Allen's organization is so fucked up, they can't even properly tank, because nobody is on the same page, everybody wants to keep their job, and everybody has their own agenda.

They did properly tank.... in 2004, when KP took over as coach in a move similar to Pop. Unfortunately this time they promoted a hungry young guy who is determined to win games. The fool! He'll ruin everything...

That's funny. Again, this organization is so fucked up, they can't even properly tank. They should have put Buck Williams in charge, steered him to his chair before the game, and let him just roll a ball out on the floor and pick names out of a hat for playing time.

They should have put HCP in charge so he could sleep on the bench instead of in the truck.

We don't need to consciously lose. Just let it happen by itself, or if we win, be happy.

Someone said that we need to lose to move up our 2 picks. But tanking changes only one of those picks, since we have no control over the New Jersey pick.

You really think that getting the 11th pick vs the 16th or so is going to make a hill of beans difference in the Blazers' rebuild?

This. After 3-4 years of experience when the new guy finally makes our rotation, we'll have made so many trades and signings (probably including trading him), that the slight difference in draft position 3-4 years earlier won't matter in the big picture of our comeback.

Besides, we still continue to draft like Pritchard did. We still target one player in the whole draft, who if not for us, would be drafted several spots lower. So we'll draft the same guy even if we move up a few spots, and the tank will have been for naught.

The RG was pretty full last night and we still have ten more home games. The draft position gained is pretty small compared to the damage tanking now would cause among season ticket holders. My vote is to keep playing hard.

Absolutely keep playing hard. Just keep playing hard with the young guys

Btw, Nate, the answer to your question is a championship. If we make the playoffs, we will be hot and confident. I think we have to go 15-4. So let's do it!

I honestly wonder what percentage of the stuff you post you actually believe.... 50%? 35%?

Yep. We don't need Ray Felton realizing he needs a contract and messing up this tank job by playing well.

IMO playin Felton probably helps the tanking as he is so shitty. But there is no excuse for not playing the young guys a lot, simply stupid not to.
