That can get pretty difficult to deal with, especially the dads. I have seen some real assholes coaching but not much you can do about it but sign up for the job yourself. Then you get to see the dads (and moms) in the real light.Overzealous youth sports coaches and dads.
Huge trigger. Want to fight.
I coached both Pop Warner Football and Basketball teams without too much problem but for one guy that really got pissed that I didn't play his son at Quarterback. Another time I agreed to coach the pitchers in little league. Another dad getting pissed convinced me that I had done enough duty with coaching and dads.
Ha! That was a relief.
The next year we were in California and I stayed out of the coaching business. But 11 year old son is playing little league. Coach comes to me and asks me, can you work with him as a pitcher, I need a pitcher! OK! Will do. That was a real pleasant time of it, the coach was exceptionally good with the kids, a real pro. He had been with the Ms Twins during his pitching days. Managed to take those kids to the Nor Cal Championship game. They lost but they all remember the time. I met up with one of them last winter with my son on the boat in Marina del Ray. In their 50s now and still had a word or two to say about that season.
