What now? Ownership, etc

Look, if they haven't relocated garbage franchises like the Hawks, Grizzlies, Pelicans, etc., they're never going to move a franchise that always ranks in the top 5 in attendance.

Especially with the Seattle Sonics debacle. Till this day the nba still gets bad publicity about that. It just won’t happen.

From a Bald Faced Truth interview with Paulson in 2015:

"Said Paulson: "Look. If Paul Allen were selling the Blazers, would I be interested? Yes. I don't think baseball is something that has a future in Portland for a variety of reasons. I think to own a baseball team in a non-major market -- in a market of this size -- I mean, you look at the way baseball is struggling even in Seattle right now, I just don't think that's realistic.""

From RipCityBoy in 2018:

John Canzano can eat a dick and I hope he uses turtlewax on the chrome dome of his!

You pay a billion for the Blazers you can move the team.

The Bucks went for over half a billion 4 years ago. The market has only gone up.

They didn’t let the Kings move when they had the money ready to go. The nba doesn’t like when teams move they learned their lesson from the Sonics mess

As for Paulson having the cash. Forbes estimated the Timbers value at $270 million last year, the Blazer were estimated at 1.3 billion. I'm pretty sure he could put an ownership group together to make a legit offer.

Also of note is that the Braves ownership group sold tracking stocks in the team to finance their debt. Owners/groups can get pretty creative these days.

Amoung those who were bidding for the Clippers:

David Geffen
Oprah Winfrey
Larry Ellison

I don't trust McGowan to not screw us over.

Its not his choice. It’s the NBAs like it wasn’t the Seattle money men’s choice when they were willing to write an open checkbook for the Kings back in 2013

Anyone who is not connected to the Portland will stand to make more money moving them. MUCH more money. Its a numbers game, and unless there are some ROCK solid guarantees, I fear for the future.

I'm not really into these type of things, but, could Phil Knight be interested or he already excluded the possibility in past interviews that I didn't read?

Phil is 80 now - would he want to do this? not sure, just askin

I’ll email Jeff Bezos and see if he’ll loan me the money

Maybe he might just to hold on to the franchise as his civic pride or duty. He could then conduct his own search in the next few years to make sure the team goes to an owner who will keep it here.

God knows just holding on to the team for a few years will turn a profit

I wonder if Bill Gates would be willing to buy them, and let a management group do the day-to-day running of the joint?

Everything else looks bleak. As people have mentioned: Phil Knight is too old, and Paulson doesn't have the dough.

Seattle and Las Vegas are prime and probably begging for NBA franchises.

Between the Seahawks, Blazers, and MLB expansion ... that is a lot of dough in play. One has got to take short shrift, right?

Fuck Seattle and their lunacy. They're worse than Portland up there.

If this franchise moves to Seattle, I'm done. I'll follow players like Nurk, Dame, and CJ, and whoever they play for, but I'm not rooting for a Seattle team.
