What people here think of Jason Kidd?

Before the Kidd trade, the New Jersey Nets were the biggest joke in professional sports...period.

Any suggestion otherwise denies reality. If you are a Net fan, you HAD to love Kidd. His personality was and is flawed. Most of the great NBA players have similar flaws. I tried to separate the personal Kidd from the professional Kidd, which in the end proved foolish.

Still, the Nets got a great deal. It's too bad they couldn't keep Diop but he wasn't worth $31 million. Right now, the deal stands as: Jason Kidd and Antoine Wright for Devin Harris, Maurice Ager, Ryan Anderson (taken with the Mavs pick), Keyon Dooling (signed with the $3.3 million trade exception and paid with the $3 million in cash), the Mavs unprotected first round pick in 2010, and Keith Van Horn's contract. Malik Allen and DeSagana Diop are out of the picture.

Buck Williams recently said he considers himself a TrailBlazer, NOT a Net. That should put to rest the silly proposition that he was the greatest Net ever. HE understood what a joke the Nets were. The choice is either Dr. J or Jason Kidd, ABA or NBA.

Personally, I still think that Dr. J was the best Net, but not only the best Net, but most important Net in franchise history. If it weren't for him, would the Nets even be in the NBA, or a forgotten ABA team like many others? I'm guessing the latter.

I never knew Buck said that about the Nets. Damn.

I'm sure Erving considers himself a Sixer. That doesn't mean he's not the top Nets' player of all time.

Buck is free to feel anyway he likes. That doesn't mean he wasn't the Nets' best NBA player. It's not about what a joke the Nets were (nor the betrayal Buck felt at the hands of Larry Brown), but the kind of player Buck was, and Buck was the hardest working man in the NBA when he was a Net.

And, no kidding around, weren't you a Knicks fan when Buck played for the Nets?

Allow us to have our own opinions, would you?

How many finals appearances did Buck Williams get the nets?

None. Is that supposed to make Kidd the better Net? I guess Aaron Williams and Jason Collins were better Nets than Buck also.

I have no problem with posters feeling Kidd was the best NBA Net.

I just don't share that opinion.

kidd was great for our team... he got us devin and he gave us some excitin playoffs in CAA... u know who should love kidd? kenyon martin because he got $90+ million contract because of what he did with kidd... same with mikki moore!!!

"I care about RESULTS."

And the results of every game that Buck Williams ever played were that he left it ALL on the floor. Every game.

I want those results every game from Vince.

I want Vince out there giving everything every night.

I know that Nets are going to suck this year, as did many of Buck's Nets teams. But the results I want is Vince doing everything in his power to win games for the Nets.

Are you understanding me?

That's your opinion, but you'd be wrong. I've done my research and this guy was a joke.

Of course that's why he says he doesn't consider himself a Nets player, but you other poor idiots will just believe what you want to believe. Got it?

Buck Williams was a joke? Thank you. I'll know better than to respond to one of your posts again.

BUCK WILLIAMS WAS A JOKE? You insult everyone with any NBA knowledge.

His entire career, he was the hardest working man in the NBA.

May be time to follow another sport.

Your blindness to the obvious is hilarious, and I pitty you.

But people will believe what they want to believe. I like to look at the facts.

FACT: Buck Williams was happy to get out of New Jersey. You can support that bum if you want to. I won't.

Time to stop drinking the kool-aid.

Hey, lumpy, Kidd didn't ask to get out of Jersey in the '04 offseason. Kidd didn't want to get out in the '06-'07 season? Kidd didn't play heartlessly enough so that Nets deemed it necessary to dump him mid-season last year?

Buck was happy to get out of New Jersey. But he never asked to get out of New Jersey, nor play with no heart in order to get out of New Jersey. Jason Kidd did those things.

Stats show the most he's ever averaged is 18.2. I know it's not all about points but what did he do to be the greatest Net? Not disagreeing with anyone but just wondering.

Nope, wrong again thanks for playing. Kidd was a great competitor, and didn't go public with his egomaniacy until last season.

You admit Buck was happy to get out and yet you still support him.

Sigh, maybe you should get a new team since you're not a True Fan.

So, I'll have to assume you didn't see Buck Williams play as a Net.

Again, for his entire career, Buck Williams was the hardest working man in the NBA.

I know that means nothing to the current crop of NBA fans, but to we oldtimers, giving everything you've got, all the time, was something to be greatly admired in a player.

I'm out for awhile, as some of you guys are truly disgusting me.

Go watch some Vince highlights.

It's Vince Carter!

But fine, go out for a while. That won't change what my eyes have seen.

I believe Dr. J considers himself a Net AND a Sixer. He has stated that he still roots for the ABA teams, afterall.

I would agree that Dr. J is the best Net, whether he considers himself one or not.

No actually I just meant that Buck Williams never got past the second round as a NET. But when he got on a better team in Portland he had it alot easier and had some deeper trips in the playoffs, but never really did win it all.

I dunno maybe Jason Collins isn't a bad comparison to Buck Wiliams, here's a guy who played through pain all the time, put all his effort and willpower into the game for his team, hell put his body on the line and never took a day off. But I don't know if you could say that Jason Kidd and Jason Collins are really on the same level, but you're entitled to your opinion I suppose.

wasn't Buck Williams traded for Petrovic, anybody know?

If Dr. J counts, then so should Rick Barry.
Barry, Julius, Kidd, VC, Buck. Not a bad foursome.

Kidd was almost a saint for the first 2 years as a Net.
NJ got unlucky when Mutombo trade didn't work , then they got unlucky again when they tried Zo. If Zo played as well in NJ as he did later on in Miami, we would have beaten Detroit in 2005 and had 3 straight trips to the finals, in all probability.

These two unlucky scenarios put management in an almost impossible position. Rookies couldn't be trusted too much because of the need to "win now". They got below average, older vets hoping they'll get lucky. They were good gambles too. For example, Jamaal Magloire was a former All-Star big man who we got for $4M a year. Jeff McInnis put up very solid numbers in Cleveland. Scott Padgett was supposed to be our class-A 3 point specialist.

Ever since those finals years NJ believed they were still in that elite league of teams competing for a title, you could see it on players' faces and even on the threads made on the board. Someone always said "if everything goes right we can be in the Finals in June!" It was obvious to many except for the Nets and their fans that they were not a powerhouse anymore.

I think Kidd realized this much earlier than most, and thus as a player, he lost confidence, and everything else followed.

Jason Kidd is the savior of the NEts franchise. This team was a laughingstock and a joke - I would go to games where you could have archery practice in the lower levels. People would laugh when I said I was a NEts fan - Jason Kidd singlehandedly turned it around and gave us all the rides of our lifetimes for 2 years in a row. For that - I don't care if he acts like a tool for the rest of his primadonna life - I am eternally grateful will always be a Kidd fan!
