What scares me about Canales...

I like the suggestion (I think in regard to Sloan but could work with other choices) that Canales be in charge of scrimmage/practice and the head coach the in game X's and O's.
 
A high profile coach doesn't want to come into Ptown right now. This team is completely being rebuilt, ya want sub 500 season on your resume? Canales is a great stop gap coach till this team figures out their identity.

so you believe that the Blazers do nothing? Or are you sayingthat they would give the Title of head coach to someone not qualified, just to spare the record of a big name candidate?

I would have to challange that thinking, to me, if you are a big name coach, you want to put your imprint on the players, style and dirrection of the team, the time to start is now. If you were to waffel in the face of a challange, you are not the guy I want.

A coach like Pop, Phil, Doc would never coach here. Their egos are to big to work with a mess like Ptown has right now. Give them two superstars and a boat load of money and that might work but this team isn't there yet. Now if you're talking a Flip, Van Gundy's or Adelman.... perhaps, but these guys really haven't won shit either... so why not let something new happen? Give me someone with energy and most importantly WANT to be here and that's a great start.
 
ok, I see where you are going..

First "Ptown" is not as much of a mess to frighten off a coach. Lots of positives to work with, cap space, picks, and a willing ft office and owner.

Seconed, Pop is no sissy, he does not rest on his record like Phil, and if Doc wanted to Coach, Irecall him taking on challanging positions in the past. Any one who values personal record over team is not the guy we need to begin with.

Big name or more qualified candidates are available. Heck we have had asst coaches take over programs (Eric and Monte as of late) and turn them int winners. How many Asst coaches are there in the league? Then, how many Head coaches are not under contract or have a buy out?

Hey, I love Kaleb, but I dont think he is ready yet.

But I don't really hate it either. If he does get a permenant gig as the head coach of the Blazers; I will have a meh approach. I really love his spirits and he seems to really get through to his players. It would be really nice to see him successful in this league. Maybe you can keep Kaleb and give him a staff that has a lot of the technical aspects of the game.

I do believe he has the "instincts" to be a great coach. He just needs experience, IMO.

This is my number one on the wish list. But, like the Lotto ticket that I purchase twice a year, the odds are low.

Agree. There are over 30 assistant coaches better thsn Canales, including Bernie Bickerstaff. Jerry Sloan, one of the greatest coaches in NBA history, is willing to come here. I still guarantee that it won't be Canales.

I'd like a big mane coach to imprint some style on these players. Brian Grant, maybe? He's got a pretty good mane.

I have never attacked any poster on this board that hadn't attacked me personally several times, FIRST! Not about hoops, but making comments about ones mental makeup and such from someone you've never EVER met.

To me that's insane! But it wont go overlooked and it will be responded to, fair enough?
