What To Do About Flopping?

It seems like such an easy fix with ref fines and player suspensions so I can't help but wonder if the league really wants to fix it at this point. At least not bad enough

dviss has been and always will be right on this subject: fine the refs $10,000 per flop called, and watch the flops disappear.

I've been barking up that tree for years. Mark Cuban actually has a team make DVDs of blown calls to send to the refs after every game and hold them accountable. He claims it's helped his cause.

Fixing Flopping is so easy that I can only assume that the league doesn't really want to do anything about it:
1) Make flopping is a technical foul.
2) Give the refs the ability to stop the game and watch a reply to determine if a flop has occurred.

When the other teams get to put actual points on the board because of a flop, the coaches will put an end to it.

With the amount of flopping on the rise again the current anti flopping rules aren't working.

I'd like to see the league rule that when they later find a player flop, the opposing team will be awarded 3 points after the game is over. If it changes the outcome, then so be it.

Minnesota, Houston and Miami may only win 5 games a year.

I think flopping should be re-named.
If we call it Bootlicking, Clown Drop or Floor Sucker maybe Floppy Beard will avoid it

Use that replay center to watch games in real time and give them a tech for the first flop. Toss them out after the second flop and remove any points retroactively. Kinda like when they review a three pointer after the fact. Same principle.

What if every player on the team got fined $20,000? Like making everyone do pushups because the squad joker acted up.

That is why I love hockey, they already give you a penalty for taking a dive, which has be renamed to "embellishment". It is a minor penalty (equivalent to a foul in the NBA). So start giving personal fouls, soon as Harden has 3 or 4 fouls by half he will stop.

If the ref can't tell, but a players over sells it, call offsetting fouls. Again, hockey will do this if there is a penalty, but the player "embellishes" the call they, will call one on him too. A ref should be able to tell if a player is over selling it (aka a player flying back like they got shot, when everyone knows a guy that large shouldn't move that far unless is it Shaq hitting them).

After some careful consideration, I believe that the best solution would be to allow whoever was assessed the foul the opportunity to kick the flop-er squarely in the nuts while he is down flailing about.

That would be awesome! Or maybe allow the opposing coach to use their time-out on a flop. If it wasn't a flop, then the team gets charged a time out. If it's a flop, it's a personal foul on that player

People... Flopping isn't a problem from Division 1 on down. It should simply be ignored (the way those referees handle it) and it will go away. I just did a Varsity Boys Lincoln vs Madison where the Lincoln kid flopped twice right in front of me (I was in proper position). The first one I ignored (I don't speak Whinese). The 2nd one I addressed. I simply told him:

"you're not getting that call tonight."

He self adjusted and never flopped again for the entire contest.

It's really that simple.

To officiate Varsity High School one has to go through 5-6 seasons (years) of weekly classes and evaluation.
