That was not my idea.I said "bangin' in the post" not posting up his man...if it entered and I missed it, my bad...I was talking about Chief's turnovers and time in the post....not post ups on offense...I was talking about possessions...rebounds and how it's easy to get turnovers when he's in the paint...then I mentioned that ET is the guy who steps out of bounds or dribbles off his foot....it was in reference to his unusual style of ball handling which I attributed to soccer playing.....somehow this all got derailed...I started the conversation when someone said Chief should never dribble....how it got to this, I'm not sure bones...so be it. And on topic...it didn't start with you at all....I had quite a few posts about it before you replied to mine
I just don't see the difference between banging in the post and turning over the ball compa4ed to posting up.. oh well.

It was me who said I didn’t like when he dribbled and didn’t want him too. I admitted he was much better this year. It’s wasn’t just turnovers, he seemed in my opinion to get out of control and make bad plays too, but like I said he has gotten better. Though he still scares me when he gets that urge to make things happen. I wasn’t trying to argue, I’ve said numerous times I like chiefs game.

Aminu is everything that's wrong with the team, simbolizes our weakness in the forward spots exactly, and there are still people here that think he's a good basketball player, are you blind?

Would you like to elaborate on your point so people can discuss specifics rather than just aimlessly arguing over generalities?

but River how do you turn over the ball when you are on defence.

I see Bones point now. Aminu may bang in the paint more but he doesnt have the ball so turnovers are irrelevant on that end for him. The only time he can turn the ball over is when he is posting up his defender, which he almost never does.

To me, the bottom line is that there are no real needle-movers available to add to the team, so we are left with 3-4 internal possibilities, that all have strengths and weaknesses. Our main hope is that one of them steps up and take the position by force.

He plays 30 minutes per game, can't dribble, can't pass, is a mediocre shooter. He's somewhat effective as a small ball 4 but situationally, for 5-10 minutes per game, but we're giving him way too big a role. Having Harkless they are both tweeners, both not talented enough to play the 3 and both in this same role of small ball 4. We don't need both of them, we barely even need one of them.

Are you blind to the defensive side of the ball and his impact on it?
His defense? It's not bad but he's far from our best defender. He can guard two positions and is a good all around defender but I would rather play a 3 who guards 3s and a 4 who guards 4 than having a tweener who can somewhat play both positions but isn''t very good in both

You rebound a ball in the paint...nothing to do with defense...has to do with guys swipin' at the ball....I've said this already...my pt was ball possession and turnovers...not offense and defense....I said he's guarding bigger guys and crashin' the boards...a rebound is either a defensive one or offensive one...Chief is first and foremost a defensive player...the ripcity2 3 on 3 games if you watch your film see how many balls get swiped in the paint...more than bad passes or getting picked off dribbling....this topic I've already talked to death but you're welcome to define it however. You rebound you have the ball either way..Chief gets a lot of rebounds

He's a better shooter than you give him credit for, he's an excellent slasher/finisher, he's a good rebounder, he IS in fact a good (even if not great) and versatile defensive player, and as @KingSpeed loves to point out, he always seems to step up in the playoffs. No doubt he has weaknesses, but to simply say he's not a good basketball player seems very myopic to me.

River you dont have to be so defensive man. Its almost like it seems no one can ask question for further info or even disagree or point something out without you taking it personal ir getting frustrated with the disagreement or somehing.
Thai is a forum. It can be used for debating thoughts ideas and opinions man.

Now that you have explained yourself further i understand what you mean, Though i dont necessarily agree.
I think he is the one in the paint swiping rebounds from the other guys because they are taller. But either way i dont see many turnovers from Aminu while rebounding in the paint.
Maybe i missed some.

This bothers me. A lot. The post and the sentiment. Chief is integral to what we do; he brings those intangibles, especially on defense, most guys are incapable or unwilling to contribute. Chief gives no fucks about anything but the team. "Are you blind?" Fuck that.

I feel like Chief has gotten better too. I think in my dream line up he plays the 3, but I firmly believe Aminu is a solid Role player on a good contract, who isn’t high maintenance, does what they ask him to do. I know I said Inhate when he dribbles - he’s gotten better (still hard to watch), but he’s effective. No one mentions it but his playoff stats were actually good.

“this topic I've already talked to death but you're welcome to define it however”

Its just comments like this that make it feel like once you say something no one can comment on it or ask for clarification. Not just this post or this thread.
Just my observation. Take it for what you will.

Chief is first and foremost a defensive player...the ripcity2 3 on 3 games if you watch your film see how many balls get swiped in the paint...more than bad passes or getting picked off dribbling....
That's because people weren't guarding the perimeter, the refs had a very loose whistle, and there was less passing because there were 3 people instead of 5.

FWIW:

Bad Pass Turnovers Per 36 Minutes:
Amimu: 0.59
Harkless: 0.40

Bad Pass As a % of Turnovers:
Aminu: 43%
Harkless: 35%

Small forward is the only position where he's a net positive.

It's not about logic, it's about b4f getting his feelings out there :)

Chief is a solid role player. Another versatile player who is needed off the bench. The problem is opposing teams will live and die by leaving him wide open and encouraging him to either shoot or put the ball on the floor. His 3 pt stats are misleading IMO. They just don't cover him. I really wish someone else would step up at PF spot allowing Chief to focus on a role better suited for him.....defensive stopper with an "occasional" 3pt attempt. Unfortunately Terry encourages him to be more than that.

My recollection is that in past years Aminu was more effective at PF. But I agree that recent advance stats clearly show he is better at the 3. I would love to believe Blazers have seen this too, but the current roster balance indicates they still see him as a 4.

He's a great defender that can guard 4 positions. How do you come to this conclusion without watching games?
He's a slightly above average defender (if we're being generous) who can guard SF/PF, and doesn't get totally wrecked when he has to switch onto a PG/SG.
