What to do with Sharpe?

Are people really saying to trade a guy to open up a STARTING spot to a person who has only played preseason games? Thats funny as fuck.
I think there are a lot of ifs in the idea and we know that we have until January to see how all of those ifs play out. If Dame and Ant suck on defense together then Ant should be moved. If Dame and Ant take turns on offense instead of having some synergy then Ant should be moved. If Shaedon is just flat out better than Ant at SG then Ant should be moved... and that's the only way I see Shaedon starting. I think more likely if Ant and Dame aren't a great combo then you move Ant to upgrade at forward and plug in Hart at SG with Shaedon getting a bunch of PT behind him if he earns it.

I think a lot of people are rightfully excited by what they've seen out of Sharpe. Yeah they've only been flashes of brilliance but wow were they bright. The dude is super talented, super skilled, seems to have a great motor and has the perfect frame to play SG. If you were going to start him at SF you wouldn't likely want him to do so with a back court as small as Dame and Ant.

Well.... right now the SF position is a net negative, so I'd rather roll the dice on starting Sharpe and having him blow up into a star.

You move Hart/Ant/whatever for a small forward. Go after OG.

Dame
Sharpe
OG
Grant
Nurk

That's a WAY more balanced starting lineup than Dame/Ant/Hart/Grant/Nurk

Sharpe has shown some real chops on defense. More than Ant has ever shown.

OG would likely cost less than Siakim right?

would Ant and picks get it done?

In May, Sharpe turned 19 years and and in June, Simons turned 23 years old.
The return on any trade of Anfernee Simons, who of course could play alongside Sharpe for many many years, better make the Blazers a clear championship contender, otherwise it would be a fucking joke.

Okay i understand. Trade Dame for a haul to put with sharpe and Ant.

This dude looks like a superstar to me. I remember Dame saying a few years ago he saw himself passing his mantle to Ant one day, I think it will be Sharpe.

Per 36 is useless unless you have guardrails.

If Sharpe is only playing 5 minutes per game in garbage time, his per-36 could look like he is easily the best player on the team.

Good point. Just concerned he wont get starter minutes so total stats wont look as impressive.

Careful though. That's what Kings fans were saying at the start of the 07-08 season and they haven't seen the playoffs since!
I’m not even going to entertain you comparing the Blazers to the Kings LOL.

But that’s also a fair point I guess. Everyone here talking about literally tanking the entire season for a 14% chance of Wemby. I’d be happy to be around 8-10 after a late tank-job and selecting Dereck Lively. I feel like your Kings take is a lot more plausible if we traded all the vets and are left losing out on #1. The Kings have never had talent like us imo, even right now.

Here’s to hoping the Kings make the playoffs in 2023 :)

Unfortunately i see a paul George type projection where he leaves Portland for a bigger market.

Which is why it’s paramount that you don’t just trade Dame to trade him. If you trade Dame just to move in a different direction, you’re just showing Sharpe at an early age to only care about himself cause that’s what loyalty’s gonna get you.

Let's make it something fun!

If we use per/36 we'd need to clarify some things: Minimum games and minutes per game. And using what stat(s)? Are they all weighted equally? I think using one of the following would be cleaner:

let me digest that this weekend. Cant focus on the numbers at work and my next two evenings are booked up. But Saturday i promise to revisit this and im sure we can agree on a set of metrics.
I have an idea for a bet though. Winner gets treated to the last game of the season from the loser. :)
