The groundable statement that you now want to debate was meant to add some levity.

In this case it does...and using the "Congress was too busy impeaching Trump" excuse is flawed. Congress impeached Trump on Dec 18th...and everyone knew that the Senate would never actually allow him to be removed from office. It's not like the whole House and Senate was shut down during Dec, Jan, Feb...they were still working and voting on Bills ....while among other things, Trump tried to assure us that the virus would "simply disappear".

As far as "shining stars" this virus did not take "everyone by surprise"...some countries have simply done a better job than others.

Yes, everything falls on the President's lap. He is in charge of the executive branch. Congress is in charge of making laws. New laws weren't needed to take early action against the pandemic.

South Korea would be a good start if you want to see a country that handled it well. Why? They took it seriously, and they tested early and often.

I think one thing that will be interesting is genetic testing on this. It definitely appears S. Korea handled this amazingly well, but I wonder if genetically they were better equipped to handle it then say Italy, or the US.

I'm fairly certain that some doctors in China had an idea what it was before December. The Chinese government suppressed the information.

Again, this is a pandemic of its kind not seen in a century. Trump - and Trump, alone - will be blamed at every turn, though. So be it.

During the impeachment proceedings he was saying the virus was well contained and no big deal.
The Senate voted on the Impeachment trial on Feb. 5.
Here's what Trump said on Feb. 25, three weeks later:

Trump was not concerned with the virus during the impeachment hearings and wouldn't have done anything different had there been no impeachment.
