Thought I had finally gone completely bonkers, over Thai chilies.

Yesterday went to farmers' market. I was planning Thai beef, got Thai chilies, lemon grass, other stuff. Washed everything. Started right away chopping mushrooms for mushroom noodle dish. Today went to make beef but Thai chilies not in produce bin where good chilies belong. Tore apart refrigerator. No chilies. I KNOW I bought them. Maybe forgot to take out of basket? No, basket empty. Could they have fallen out of the basket on the way home? Not in car. Tore refrigerator apart again. No chilies. WTF? I could try dried peppers but not the same. Sigh. Started chopping shallots & garlic & lemon grass. Looked up and came to me in a flash. I know where they are!!!!

When washing produce I put it in dish drainer, not the one I use for dishes. Then the dish drainer sits on a high shelf. Because Thai chilies are so small, they would fall through the holes so I had put them in little bin for silverware. Then got busy with mushrooms. Sure enough, after 30 minutes of tearing apart my kitchen, there were the chilies still in silverware compartment of dish drainer.

The Thai beef is braising slowly in the oven and starting to smell good.

Go ahead, laugh. As Shakespeare said, all's well that ends well.

HA!

I'm 6'4", when I misplace something, MrsPokerDog always tells me to look high, because I don't leave things low.

Ham stew tonight...Ham hocks with my garden baby potatoes, garden green beans, eggplant, broccoli, zucchini, tomato and homemade kimchi from our garden cabbages, Winco button mushrooms and garlic ...I love a good stew. Also some pickled Daikon radishes from the Asian market. The broth is similar to hot sour soup.

Playing catch-up after being away 24 hours because of Yom Kippur.

Unsurprisingly thinking of food today. Not eating will do that. I want to make a cake. Not cookies, not tea bread, not vegan dessert, not whole grain bread. A politically incorrect cake with gooey frosting.

Who wants to come over and help eat it?

I wanted to post pic of new larger freezer. Everything organized and no longer so crowded things fall out when I open the door.

Neighbor took my old freezer. It works fine, just cramped.

Not food related but installed new furnace filters and weather stripped back door. It was 81°F today.

Dinner tonight, kale salad from garden with poached salmon, orange sections, avocado, toasted hazelnuts, mint from garden and orange vinaigrette. I like salmon skin when it's crispy. Poached salmon doesn't have crispy skin so gave skin to Lashanna.

Dishwasher on the fritz. Man looked at it, said it needs circulation pump. He ordered new one and will hopefully fix next week.

Before moving here I rented same house 24 years. No dishwasher. With eight fruit trees, lots of preserving plus dinner parties and Thanksgiving and baking. Washed every dish by hand.

Okay. I'm gonna say it and it might end up getting be banned from the thread, but.... Taco bell makes an incredibly good breakfast crunchwrap. Ask for a Steak and Bacon-both meats. Use some taco bell hot sauce, which I think is also one of the better hot sauces out there, and you are set.

It is hard for me to eat out for Breakfast because I feel like I make such good breakfasts at home. Burgers are starting to get the same way for me. I feel like the burgers I make at home are better than 95% of the stuff I can get from a fast food or restaurant.

I feel that way about tri tip too. So many spots have tri tip that sucks.

Enormous pot of chicken vegetable soup in Instant pot. Instead of adding noodles, which turn to mush when frozen and reheated, I cooked wheat berries in Instant pot and set them aside while soup cooked. Used up all my available containers. The soup still left in the pot is tonight's dinner.

Also made roasted spaghetti squash. People make mistake of treating it like spaghetti with heavy meat sauce. Because it doesn't have starch it doesn't soak up sauce and sauce overwhelms flavor of vegetable. Like all squash it has a lot of water that turns sauce watery. After roasting and pulling into strands it drained out. Then tossed with olive oil, Parmesan, a little garlic, lemon juice, and fresh basil.

Starting to think Thanksgiving. Typically, I have decided on desserts before rest of menu.
