there seemed to be something of a left/right consensus around here that a foundational problem is the power and non-accountability of police unions. Well, the head of the Portland police union has been integral in the Fed presence:

my guess is a lot of this is a reaction to the 'defund police' movement. And the rest is just obstinate belligerence that so many police unions display. The city is not blameless in this, nor is the mayor, but the police, and their unions, have to be subordinate to democratically elected leadership. Yet as we see, over and over, the unions don't believe they should be

It will but Chicago has been bad for years and nothing changes. I dint think the answer is fed troops but probably and combo of State & City police force and help from Illini Guard. Something has to be done to protect the innocent.

Black people embrace the word black because slavery and oppression have created a situation where we cannot trace back our COUNTRY of origin. Racist folks need to realize that because telling us to go back to a continent doesn't tell us to which country to go back to. And frankly maybe y'all shall go back to Europe.

Here's the beauty of white privilege that I don't have:

You have the ability to trace your family history back to your country of origin. Where are your people from? Are they from Ireland? Are they from Italy, Greece, Scotland, ect??

Your heritage is not white. Your heritage is your country of origin.

Break these chains of segregation and white supremacy.

So that makes me (and you) Americans, because this is where we are from, this is our country of origin (though doesn’t the current state of DNA testing narrow down where any and all of us....including black people....are “from”? Mine did, which is how I know how many countries are in the mix. My ancestors obviously spread their seed far and wide). And to be very honest about it, I strongly consider myself to be an Oregonian first and an American second. But that’s just me. I’’ll meet you anytime, anywhere to discuss whatever you would like. But please understand, the beer has to be cold and that you’re going to find yourself preaching to the choir........
