Rumor What's going on in Portland?

Ted Wheeler is an abject failure as Mayor of Portland, OR. I don't have to have any more evidence than what I've been reading, hearing, and seeing. This is 2020. We ALL make evaluations without having to be in one particular place, moment, and/or time. I'm really not certain why you want to keep hammering on this point. It's become a bit nonsensical, at best.

You know what, though? This will all be moot when he gets tossed by the voters in November. Y'all won't have ol' Ted to kick around anymore.

As to @SlyPokerDog thinking I care about the Mayor of Portland, OR too much? OK, well, I was born and raised there, so there's that. I do still have family and friends there, so there's that. Moreover, I've been responding to comments and assertions by julius and others ad nauseam, so there's that, too.

It is interesting that nearly 2/3 of Portland wants Wheeler gone. It's plain to see....from even 2,000 miles away. This horse is pretty much mincemeat.
You DO realize don’t you that the supreme irony to your opinions is that while Ted Wheeler is probably not going to be reelected, his successor (Sarah Iannarone anyone?) is HIGHLY likely to be farther to the left than even Ted is. Careful what you wish for in a city that is no longer yours........

Hush. We're purchasing THE HCP's neighbor's home as an Air B&B.

I get all your so-called points. Parsing every jot and tittle of each conversations/debates gets a bit weary, though.

So, you don't think Trump is an abject failure as POTUS?

That isn't what we're talking about, nor is it really a relevant point. All you think you are doing by bringing him up is trying to change the target of the discussion.

I'm not sure she'll get elected, and I'm not so sure he won't get re-elected.

I bought him up because you used him as an example. I then had the right to cross-examine.

I used it as an example so you'd maybe see it from a different perspective. that doesn't give you the 'right' to do anything other than think "oh hey, I can now see why what I said might have been perceived differently than what I intended. Maybe I will change how I say what I mean, or look into the subject more and be more educated on the situation."

But instead you saw it as a potential 'gotcha! I am right, I am right, I am riiiiiiiiight!"

I have an OPINION:

Ted Wheeler is an abject failure as Mayor of Portland, OR.

There are plenty other who share my same opinion. It will manifest itself come November.

In my opinion the mayor of Nashville (Whoever that might be) is an abject failure. I’m sure there are plenty of others who share my opinion. But then, I don’t live there so who really gives two shits about my opinion?

No one is denying that you have an opinion. what I'm doing is asking you to answer the simple question of "yeah, but why?"

You think he is a failure as the mayor. But why do you feel that way? Outside of "my family tells me so".

And you seem to think I'm a fan of Wheeler. I'm not. I didn't vote for him. But the difference is, I've stated reasons why I think he's a bad mayor, you haven't.

He certainly isn't my fave, either. Democrat, as well.

As a whole, he's coddling to the masses and failing to get a grip on the city he has been elected to be leading.

I know you really don't really want to read yet another article, but, awhile back, this guy summed up some of the issue(s) at hand. Ted Wheeler is in the square center of it all. Remember the old "Buck stops here" Truman quote? Well, it's true.

If the buck never stops with the President of this entire country, then it’s pretty hard to point the finger at a simple mayor of a medium sized city......you don’t get to pick and choose who the buck stops with. And neither does a president.....It comes with the job, regardless of who or what that individual oversees.....it’s why they were elected in the first place.

Trump has coddled his base and has failed to get a grip on the country he was elected to lead

Gotta love all these conversations that end up resulting in, "Yeah, but guess what Trump does!!"

BTW, in that RVAT, I had asked for a "Still Evaluating" button. Haven't seen one thus far.

That's the maximum number of responses allowed in a poll.

So your whole argument is that he's coddling to the masses and failing to get a grip on the city?

Is there a more generic and hollow answer you could provide me with?

I wonder if you see the incredible amount of irony in the "coddling tot he masses" and "failing to get a grip on the city" stuff, considering that is 100% true of Trump.

Yeah, and I addressed that saying it's weird how you're fine with the buck stopping with the mayor, but oblivious about it stopping with the President.

I was simply pointing out that your expectations of civic leaders are wildly inconsistent, depending on your narrative. That alone makes it virtually impossible to take you seriously on pretty much anything. You’re more about the bobbing and weaving than landing the punch. And all that’s gonna do is tire you out early......

You're lagging.

Please.

I was relating to one civic leader: Ted Wheeler.

Ahh, cool. Thanks for checking!

I had already answered that question in the thread.

I think there is only 10 options, and they are full. and @kjironman1 , I don't think mods can change it from public to private, so that shouldn't be an issue. (maybe Sly can change it, but I don't think we can. I know I won't)

You're lagging.
Funny you say that right before I responded to your complaint (for lack of a better word) about the # of options in a poll, that I answered right after you asked it.

But if you must know, I was on amazon looking for some air filters for my parents.

It can’t be okay for one local civic leader but not for the civic leader who represents us all. Wheeler has absolutely NO impact on YOUR life (despite how much you might “care” for your old home town). Trumps actions (or lack thereof) impact 330 million people, including ME. Your priorities are mind boggling. You’re sweating something irrelevant to the bigger picture while ignoring a guy who is doing his damndest to incite a second American Civil War. And you are as complicit as if you fired the first real bullet. But the one thing about having your head in the sand is that it keeps your ears warm........

Such a nice son.

I don't think Wheeler has a snowball's chance in hell getting elected again but I might point out that yesterday's front page news had a walk by shooting of a 31 year old female cop and 20 year old male cop sitting in a car in Los Angeles..one shot in the face....both rookies just graduated from the academy....I can read news from across the country too....this was a lone gunman..they have video of him shooting into the cop car....I'd say many cities have their share of abject failures....as a matter of fact....the cops all over the country are up against people who've had enough brutality and some are going to face violence with violence...which in any book is wrong but it's not what protests are for...it's a cancer that grows around them..always has. people get shot daily in South Side Chicago and have forever....became normality....Nashville has a horrible crime rate....Portland is no exception ..there is tension between cops and citizens...when cops stop making people feel safe....go ahead and blame the mayor but you might want to put the camera on the police commisioner first...people also infiltrate organized protests to have an excuse to be hooligans. That's not the responsibilty of those who protest peacefully...but cops are shooting journalists and mayors with rubber bullets...yeah...people have a lot of guns out there. I think guns are our biggest problem personally..they don't keep you safe...they keep others in danger
