I wasn't around when PapaG finally got banned, but I didn't think he was all that bad. Sure, he liked the attention and was actively trolling for reactions, but he usually had sound and reasonable logic to back his arguments. Maybe I'm just misremembering.

PapaG was capable of having reasonable conversations, especially about basketball (though he was prone to hostility at times there too), but once in a while, he'd go absolutely ballistic with post after post that were equal parts paranoia, victimhood and self-congratulations.
