More importantly, they didn't look at the violent history of this person against the woman he ended up killing?

If he was known to be dangerous, why was he eligible for bail? Seems to me there's lots of blame to go around here.

In Oregon only murder, aggravated murder and treason are nonbailable.

Seems like a bad system?

This seems to disagree though:

"And finally, Oregon already has a constitutional provision that allows judges to hold defendants during the pretrial process if they are deemed to pose a significant safety risk to their victims or to the public. Article I Section 43 states: “violent felonies shall not be bailable when a court has determined there is probable cause to believe the criminal defendant committed the crime, and the court finds, by clear and convincing evidence, that there is danger of physical injury or sexual victimization to the victim or members of the public by the criminal defendant while on release.”

But this law is rarely used."

It's like a guy bragging about how many women he's slept with. It's a sign of insecurity and suppression of the knowledge that the reality aint so great.

New York is not, in fact, the center of the universe.

But supermodels do, in fact, want to sleep with me.

I sleep with them after you do. Of course I hate slipping into the used part but once you get past that it's pretty good.

Because this is the US, and money rules all. We don't punish people who can afford to post bail and hire good lawyers.

Bail should be illegal. Dangerous people should no be let out of jail, and people who aren't dangerous should generally not be in jail.

Down here working in Long Beach….just went for a walk to grab some dinner and there are sketchy motherfuckers everywhere.

I notice that a lot of the homeless in Portland are now gone. Looks like they, like the rest of us, have headed for the beach.

So happy the Greek Fearival is back in our neighborhood. After two years it has returned for the 69th edition.
Really surprised everybody was able to get there through the burning dumpsters and riots. 6073F4DF-298A-435A-9186-51904F195412.jpeg

Right now the only NCAA D1 college where both their men’s and women’s soccer programs are undefeated is the University of Portland. Pretty cool stat!

Just took the dogs on a walk through the hood. What an amazing afternoon. How could somebody actually go out of their way to google bad news about the city they live in on a day like this? Some bored motherfuckas up in here.
I didn't google "Bad News". It was simply a search for "Portland" on google news. Just providing an alternative to your sunshine and rainbows posts. Great things happen, I agree it is a great afternoon. Bad things also happen.

This is separate from what you are talking about. This is a Federal grant. There are other tax streams Portland has that are being used for homeless.

Who cares where the money is coming from. Portland's homeless are being ignored. In fact, our homeless population is on the rise. Even under Biden.

From America's president, to the governors, to city mayors. Our country fails it's own citizens. Why the hell we vote for useless politicians who care more about beautifying a city, than helping it's own citizens is beyond me.

It seems to me that if they spent money... on the problem. The problem just might actually go away.

Homeless off of our streets would beautify Portland just fine, IMO. Make Portland a safer city in the process. Win, win.

It rubs you the wrong way when ONE PERSON in this whole forum posts positive things about HIS hometown? Felt you needed to run out and find “alternative” news to share. You felt this thread was missing that?

We have more than enough money allocated to homelessness to house every homeless in the metro area 3x over for a year. And we have that funding in place every year moving forward. Buy hotels. Whatever it takes. Get these people help. We have approved the money. Now it's in our leaders to get it done.
