Rumor What's going on in Portland? (1 Viewer)

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

I’m sure there are tents on the central east side….. but I don’t remember any FUCKING PALM TRESS down there you clown.

The city of is using a California company to run the site. Apparently the Portland non profits didn't bid on the project for 'reasons.'

Except it’s actually not. Portland is a great place. Has many of the same problems every other major city in the US has. One difference is Portland is trying to fix those problems.

Didn't you hear? It's only Portland that has these issues. No where else in the country.

Are there people smoking fent in front of kids in broad daylight in Honolulu?
This shit should be in the OT thread. It's a buzzkill to chat this place up with non sports content. It's a conversation worth having but it's literally the wrong forum. That being said while we're here why don't you look up the numbers, they're very easy to find and then you'll realize that Portland and the Portland OR/Vancouver WA metro area are both (the city and entire metro area) really safe places to live and while there is high marijuana use that's the only drug where our city and area ranks poorly if you want to call it that but that's not even an illegal substance here.

There is a lot of theft and vandalism but as far as violent crime and drug crime goes we're just not a bad place, sorry to break it to you.

I was kidding, but he's not wrong. Portland is a shithole. If you don't see it, I'm guessing you live in the suburbs.

You are trippin', wow. This place sucks now. It's like Winslow's ankle, inexplicable and not getting better.

Very articulate and fact based. I'm not going to do the leg work for you but we are far below the national averages in violent crime and drug crime but we are one of the worst places for property crimes, specifically theft and vandalism.

Portland Ain't no shithole Bingo Bango Dongo. But you, might be a shithead.
If you think that the moon landing was faked, you might be a shithead.

If you believe that the earth is flat, you might be a shithead.

If you've ever tried to use a fork to eat soup, you might be a shithead.

If you think that the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary, you might be a shithead.

If you've ever tried to iron your clothes while you're still wearing them, you might be a shithead.

If you think that the answer to every question is "42," you might be a shithead.

If you've ever tried to put out a grease fire with water, you might be a shithead.

If you think that "dumbass" is a compliment, you might be a shithead.

If you've ever gotten lost in your own house, you might be a shithead.

If you think that the "I'm feeling lucky" button on Google is a shortcut to success, you might be a shithead.

I’m not sure if your issues are just with @tykendo or the fact that he said Portland isn’t a shithole. Please look up the numbers. We aren’t one of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the country. We aren’t among the top 100 drug crime cities in the US. We are a pretty bad city for theft and vandalism but although those crimes suck to deal with but are not dangerous and shit that makes you feel unsafe should be the only criteria for being a shithole.

I realize that along with the rest of the US our overall crime rates have risen since the pandemic but this place is still safer than 90% of cities in this country. Don’t believe the hype believe the pier reviewed statistics.

Main reason why drug crime is low in all of Oregon is because of measure 110. Using that stat to compare is facetious at best.

Why people keep comparing us to other cities boggles my mind.
Does it matter if we are better of worse than other cities? The fact is homocides in portland are at an all time high.
The fact is Portlanders are not used to this type of high crime. the fact is Portlanders, many anyhow are really concerned with how Portland is now, compared to what it was years ago.

Bringing up other cities is just deflection and trying to bury the head in the sand as to how bad Portland is now compared to how Portland used to be.
Stop bringing up bs side arguments.

I don't give e a shit if 100 other cities have worse crime. St louis is the worst and has been for some time.
Portland has sunk like a lead weight compared to what it used to be.

I don't have issues or disagree with any of that. I certainly have no problem with @tykendo.

I don't think Portland is any worse than most major cities.

I just thought the "shithead" post was funny, so I ran with it in the style of Jeff Foxworthy.

https://www.wweek.com/news/courts/2...so in Portland, however,crime, which rose 17%.

We are trending back upwards close to the 80-90’s numbers.
Not good.

You get it. These people just don’t realize how bad it’s gotten. Now, I will say—unlike Winslow’s ankle—things have gotten a little bit better lately, but compared to Portland of the recent past, Portland present is a mess. It literally feels like anyone who says otherwise hasn’t spent time in the city proper.

(I’m sitting in the parking lot at Delta Park as I write this. It’s like a different country here…and drastically different than it used to be. @blazerkor is right about one thing though! This should probably be in the OT…)

That's what happens when you weaken middle and lower classes. Desperate people make desperate decisions. It's not just happening in Portland, it's nation wide.

The growth of the 90s resulted largely from the collaps of the Soviet Union and the resulting flood of dirt cheap Soviet resources to the market. It was enough to improve nearly everything, but the wealthy used the opportunity to take even more of a share, and politicians were more than happy to help.

Maybe you guys should have grown up in the Portland of the 1950's, 60's and 70's. If you had, your perspectives might be a little different than they currently are. You only know the Portland that came after; a relatively brief resurrection that was never truly sustainable, sad but true......You guys got the golden years and it spoiled you. Just sayin'........

Oh it's sustainable. We just have to choose to increase access to education, healthcare, and the social safety net. Might not be able to force it at a solely local level. Probably have to have a national movement.

Actually, fusion would probably solve it... or some other clean, virtually free electricity.
