Is he really injured or is he injured like Ben Simmons was all those years with the Nyets? He seems to be walking fine on the ankle and there certainly aren't minutes I want to give him over others at the 2/3. However, the fact he isn't even suiting up and we didn't even move him for a 2nd rounder at the trade deadline to rid ourselves of his salary I find curious.
 
had a grade 2 ankle sprain, back in December, and it apparently was really bad.
 
Apparently a bunch of posters claim he's going to opt out of his contract in the summer and get a big raise. I've never understood it.

I can't wait until Matisse comes back so the conversation can switch from complaining about him not playing to complaining about him taking minutes away from others.

Obviously retaining him was a mistake and he almost certainly will exercise the 11.5M player option in his contract for next season. Portland will have his and a lot of other expiring deals following next season which will open up some interesting options for them.

How was it a mistake - we didn't want to let an asset go for nothing.

Same as Grant contract, Ant contract, Nurk contract.

We should give all of Ayton, Ant, Thybulle, Timelord big extensions in the summer so we don't ever let these assets go for nothing.

Just last week we had multiple posters here saying they believe he will opt out of his contract this summer.

I've never understood their arguments.
 
The location he initially signed with, Dallas, is now a mess. He's probably going to miss most of, if not all of, this season, and honestly, he's not really that much of a draw contract wise.

He probably could get a longer contract if he opts out, but I doubt it'd be a lucrative one. He seems like the kind of person who is just happy to do whatever. I have no complaints if he stays (I'd rather he stay than Grant, for example).

I don't remember anybody predicting a "big raise"

what I have said is that if he wants out of Portland, and there are reasons to believe he might, then he may opt out and go for a longer-term deal. A 3-year/30M deal playing for a playoff team may look a lot better than another year, at 11.5M, stuck on a lottery team playing behind Simons-Scoot-Sharpe-Camara-Avdija and possibly a rookie; and maybe even Banton at times

he was able to get a 3-year/33M deal when the cap was 136M, so a 30M deal when the cap is 150M, or more, is probably achievable
 
According to Casey Holdahl Matisse really jacked up his ankle badly a day before he was ready to come back from the same injury. I think the injury is real and don't know why he'd opt out of his contract at this point, he may never get another big payday again if his ankle isn't reliable at this point. Team Australia didn't even add him last olympics. I can see him becoming a filmmaker down the road.

He was signed when he was in his mid 20's with a fluky shooting 38.8% from 3 while in Portland. It was a gamble by Dallas that he wasn't the 12th man as in Philly and instead could be a rotation playing 3 & D solution. Time has shown it was a stupid match by Portland, Thybulle failed to become a rotational player, and Dallas was lucky they didn't get stuck with his overpaid contract.

Now after that you think another team will want to pay even more for that when Thybulle is in his 30's?

Zero chance.

It reminds me of the people saying we wouldn't be able to resign Hassan Whiteside because he was going to get another massive payday. He ended up signing for the minimum.

oh for fucksakes...distort much? I didn't say anything you just said I did

a 3 year deal would be when he's 28, 29, and 30 and he'd only be 30 in the last month or so of the deal...not really his "30's"

and bullshit on your assertion I said "pay him more"....I suggested a 3-year/30M deal; meaning his 1st year would be around 9M and his average would be 10M. His first year under his old contract was 8% of the salary cap and his average was around 8% of the cap. Under a 30M deal starting this summer, his first year would be 6% of the cap instead of 8%; and his average would be 6% instead of 8%. His current deal is a 3-year/33M deal when the average cap is probably around 145M. His new deal would be a 3-year/30M deal when the average cap could be around 165-170M. Since when is 30 more than 33, and 10 more than 11?

and what I outlined was that Thybulle may very well want out of Portland. So it doesn't have be a minimum of 10M/year that convinces him to leave. Obviously 30M guaranteed is more than 1i.5M guaranteed. But a 3 year/25M deal is still more than twice the guaranteed money of 11.5M

and I never said he was going to opt out, I said it was possible. You're the only one tossing out an absolute on this
