OT What's up with Batum?

I don't give a crap about stats in this case because i watched the games. Maybe Batum hit more threes in garbage time or in 1st quarters, Aminu hit more threes when it mattered.
*Neither of them was actually a good three point shooter.

Batum's bricks were a known fact around here. Now when a lot of time has passed, some people here allow themselves to overrate him again.

What's interesting is that Otto Porter to some in this forum would be the ideal small forward and in comparison to Batum while he was at Portland the numbers are very comparable. Batum was typically averaging in the 13-15ppg range with 5-6rpg and 5-6 apg.

I don't watch Otto Porter, but he seems to be a joke on some podcasts i listen to.

I think Batum had some really cool tricks up his sleeves and i liked his passing ability. I just didn't like his bricks and effort on some nights.

stopped reading after the first sentence. You wrote all that for no reason hahahahaha hahahahha. You know you’ve got nothing when you write that sentence. Good day.

Not sure how I feel about Aminu vs Batum... My guess is the stats were sort of similar. I think Batum was a lot better with the ball in his hands, not as strong in the paint, and offensively was kind of on or off (which I think was the same for both of them).

Very few players made me as uncomfortable when they dribble as Aminu did.

I think an Aminu / Batum pairing would have similar issues as Aminu / Harkless did, but overall would be be better.

As if stats are the bible from god himself.
Stats lie, that's why people who watch games talk about basketball and not statisticians.

I dunno, Batum doesn't look washed up in this video from last Summer. I think he just doesn't fit with the young Hornets. I think he needs to be playing for a team that might do something, or at least, playing alongside someone he respects. He reminds me a bit of Boris Diaw in his later years: doesn't give a shit about how many points he's scored, prepared to do the little things, high BBall IQ, good passer for someone that tall.

Weird to see Kobe at the end of the video...

Do you think you’re the only one that watches games or something? You can post all you want that Batum wasn’t a good three point shooter, but it doesn’t make it true. Stats don’t actually lie when the sample size is so large. In 7 seasons in Portland, Batum shot over 36% from outside. That’s objectively above average and superior to Aminu, along with his TS%, DBPM, OBPM, and BPM. It’s ok to trust stats/metrics when they all lead to the same conclusion.

He’s one of those glue guys that would look better on a good team, like Ariza. I haven’t really watched him play this year so idk where he’s at, but guys don’t usually regress at 30 unless they have some sort of physical issue. The Batum reunion ship has probably sailed but I wouldn’t be surprised if he went to another team and produced.

I'm trying to think what that team might be. The Spurs would be the obvious choice, but they seem to be going young. Toronto, perhaps? Maybe he'll just take his millions back to France and team up with Tony Parker in team ownership.

He’s a prime buyout candidate next season if they’re unable to trade him. At that point I bet all the contenders would be after him. A ballhandling wing that defends? Oh yeah, he’ll be valued.

The same Otto Porter shooting 40%+ from 3 the last 4 years?

Assuming Golden State is back in the mix next year, he'd be an extremely natural fit with them as a potential buy-out target. A wing who can defend multiple positions, pass well and shoot the three passably.

No, the same Otto Porter that has only played in 60+ games in the last 1 1/2 seasons. Like I said, the numbers are every similar and Batum is clearly a better passer and averages many more assists. I just find it funny how some of you dogged on Batum while he was here and then tout another player with very similar numbers but not as good of a play maker.

Wait, Otto Porter hasn't shot 40% from 3 the past 4 seasons?

I don't remember dogging Batum.

Trying to think if that would make me mad. It depends if they also get the #1 pick in the draft, I guess...

He probably made most of those in garbage time. I distinctly remember him bricking a lot of shots and his 32% from 3 and 40% from 2 in his last season probably tainted my overall impression of him.
IDK, Maybe he was better at the beginning of his tenure in Portland, but in the end he was dumped for a reason.

The reason was he was coming up for a new contract and the Blazers weren't willing to pay what his agent was seeking.

but there was money to pay Henderson,Davis,Aminu and Vonleh while CJ was under rookie contract.

So you would have been ok with paying $20+mil for him? I liked Batum, but definitely not that much.

After he turned 30 he seemed to go in rapid decline. He's not alone, though.

There are 192 guys in total over 6'8 in the league. There are only 20 NBA players over 6'8 and 31 years old. Only 10 who are over 32. Batum is 32 next year.

There's a great filtering around that age, and Batum's contract is the only reason he hasn't already been filtered, I suspect.

He might get a vet minimum 1 year deal, but I wouldn't want Portland to offer it.

If Batum was really sorry he could opt out of his contract this summer. LMAO, like he'd even consider doing that.

Edit: Nor should he.

I think you can sorrowfully accept your millions. A better thing to do would be to give loads to charity. Jordan has more than enough.
