I think the blazers are planning on building a contender. So that's why Aldridge is still on the team. If they assumed Aldridge would bolt; they should of taken the golden state deal.

That's a telling sign management doesn't buy into quick and the other hacks claiming he wants out

See, Aldridge hasn't necessarily said he wants out. From all things reported it sounds like he wants out only if the Blazers can't build a contender. Of course he'd stay if the Blazers are a contender.

The problem is right now, and this has been my whole point, the Blazers aren't a contender. They're about a .500 team, and that obviously won't keep Aldridge here.

I think they are more than a .500 team.

I agree the team is improved, but I disagree that it's in a big way

Yes the bench is improved, but is that really saying anything? When you look at the bench you realize that it's still heavily dependent on first and second year players. The bench will still be a weak imo, just not historically weak like last year.

Then you look at the fact the Blazers will still be a weak rebounding and defensive team (with a head coach that doesn't seem to stress defense to boot).

Idk. I see a .500 team.

Not being on a big dose of what ever Mags has taken, I think we gain by what we have added as well as what other teams intend to do this season.

Improved to a pointless .500 team that will result in Aldridge leaving because he's tired of mediocrity

It's coming. Just wait.

It seems every season that we don't win the championship is pointless to you? Why do you even follow the team or post on a message board about them? There's a lot of more fulfilling hobbies out there for you.

To roytoys defense; he seems like a die hard Aldridge fan. I can see his point in some regard. But the reality maybe this team will be much better than advertised. Sometimes the right pieces; even though they don't look as good on paper; is more valuable than getting a high profile player.

I think in this case; we are a good description of this. I can't wait for the season to start!

I guess you could just ignore that there's a good possibility that he wants out. As a fan it doesn't really matter.

Hopefully the Blazers are planning for it if it comes to that.

Planning is one thing. Giving away LMA right now for draft picks or Carlos Boozer is a pant-shatting move.

I blame Olshey for not drafting Jeremy Lamb.

Would you finally stop being a Blazer 'fan' if he left?

I'm down because the Blazers have not made moves in 3 whole days! Lazy bums.

Never fear, crandc. The Blazers still have the Room Mid-Level Exception to use. It will be interesting to see when, and how, they use it.

Some people just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.

Personally, I'd hate to be like that. I greatly prefer being a positive, upbeat person. Our team will be much better this season than last, and to me, that's a good thing.

BNM

I have no illusions that we're going to win a title with this team, but I think we can now be competitive with just about anyone. That means every game this season, unlike last year, will be fun to watch.

Following sports and being a fan is supposed to be for fun and entertainment. I have no idea why so many posters allow themselves to be so negative, agitated and apparently depressed over a team's trades, lack of trades, draft picks, or players possibly leaving in 2 years. It's strange.

If following a sports team can have a negative impact on your lives, you should probably take a step back and look at making some changes in your lives.

We were a .500 team for 2/3 of a season with the worst bench in the league, until wear and tear on the starters began to take its toll. Just sayin'.

A point that many are overlooking. This coming season should be a fun one.

hmm...POR didn't make this list of 11 "contenders" for the NBA title....(they had 12...but I don't see Lakers as a contender...this year...)

But there is a tier beneath championship-contender, what I've started calling the sub-contenders. It goes beyond simply "if you take out the contenders, these teams would win the darwinian free-for-all that would ensue." There's a hierarchy. And each team is positioned with certain opportunities and certain Achilles' heels which keep them from rising. In brief, here's what the teams have, what they need, and why they can't get over the hump:

MIA, OKC, SAS & LAL were listed as contenders (last year...don't think LA would be considered this year)

I don't think anyone on this board, even mags, thinks were a contender this year. I think we will shock at lot of teams and we could get lucky and get to the 5-6th seed in the playoffs but the ceiling for this team is probably the second round.

Shh, if we're not raining on the parade constantly we're obviously delusional homers that just don't get it.
