Yes, he's not a Net. But he could have been, had the Knicks not selected him (I still think it was a ruse by the Nets, but whatever).

Anyway, here is what the Post says today:

More troubling news on Knick rookie Danilo Gallinari - the Italian Stallion revealed his summer-long back discomfort includes pain shooting down his leg, a strong indication of sciatica, more serious than the Knicks have let on.

The Knicks have called it a "sore back" since mid-July. Sciatica could be caused by a herniated disc.

Gallinari has not played since the first game of the Las Vegas Summer League, July 14, and will miss most of preseason. Team president Donnie Walsh said Friday he's been told the injury is not serious.

Potential ruse aside, this could have been an unmitigated disaster for the Nets. [Rotoworld's Steve Alexander doesn't think he will play as many as 30 games] Instead, we have Brook Lopez. If for nothing else, let's cheer for the fact that none of the rookies are hurt, all are enthusiastic hard workers, and that they will play.

Think the Knicks tried to make picks to spite the Nets?

Or force a trade up?

I don't know; I just didn't really see how Gallinari fit either within their "typical" draft profile, or would fulfill their specific current needs (shore up the defense now!) The Nets may have taken Gallinari had Lopez, Joe Alexander and Bayless been off the table.

I'd guess the change was based on the new management/coach.

Though you're right. Glad the Nets younglings are healthy and ready for the season.

This is seems bad. Back problems and he hasnt even played a game yet.

Dumpy, you are right. If he was available we could have picked him.Lucky for them they have Chandler.

The other thing is that the Knicks are really going to have a hard time. Curry is over weight coming into camp. Not uncommon but I have read that this year is worse the previous years. Randolph still on the team. This is going to come back and haunt Walsh. Lee is going to want more money and they will have to make a decision. People are saying the D'Antoni is going to turn this team around slightly. I dont see it. Only time will tell.

I heard Allan Houston was healthier than him and that is not saying much.

This guy is an ass. Of all seasons to come in over weight. You know they hired D'Antoni as coach and will be a running team and this ass shows up out of shape.

Say what you want about the Nets, but I doubt that would happen under Nets management. They had guys in the gym for most of the summer (including Swift who isn't necessarily part of their plans). They built a team with camraderie. This guy goes away all summer and waltzes into Knick camp a fat pig because he didn't feel like he was part of something. Probably felt like he was the old regime's problem. Not a good way to work with your players and protect your investment.

Curry's working a trade out, Knicks will take the next offer of chips and dip for Curry.

I know who D'Antoni can get Curry in shape. Tie a BIG MAC on a stick attach it to Nate Robinson.

in d' antoni's system, knicks will need a pg who makes good decisions with the ball or else it won't be run-run-score but run-run-turnover that's why they picked a more cerebral-type point forward...

Instead, we have Brook Lopez.
