I would have to say Lincon city or Canon Beach.......Lincon City for chinook winds and Canon Beach because it really looks like a beach town where as Seaside looks more like a family fun center in my opinion. I also like Yachats Beach.

I've always said meh to Seaside. Our church had a men's retreat near Rockaway. Decent little town with a nice beach, as well!

Boo to Peaside.

Pacific City was my spot. Yachats is now. It's super quiet there and I rarely hit any traffic congestion getting there. And I'll be there this week/weekend. Bam!

Has anyone been to the Fort Clatsop area recently? I remember going there as a kid student.

1) Lincoln Beach. No motels, outstanding coffee shop, quiet beach. The place to really relax.

2) Newport area. From 68th street to the Bay Front. Excellent beaches and wind sheltered areas as well as a few places to hang. Good crabbing of the dock by Rogue Ale brewery.

3) Yachats. Quaint. Luna's is my favorite coastal restaurant and they beaches just north of town that are empty.

After scouring the Oregon coast I picked Bandon. Deep water channel in to the Port from the Sea and the weather is much better than up North. I think Cape Arago is a weather change point,
it's just North of Bandon about 15 miles.

Yep. That'd be #4 on my list.

Luna's good. There's a lot of good little restaurants in Yachats we've been discovering. Our place is on the north end of town (just south of a two block town called "San Marine"). A short block to the beach, and as you said, the beach is absolutely quiet. We were there five days over the Fourth of July, and spent much of the time hanging on the beach and maybe saw 4-8 people each day (a few more if we ventured far from our beach access).

As MarAzul points out, Bandon is another cool beach.

My favorite: Pacific City and Manzanita

Least favorite: Seaside.

I've spent the most time: Rockaway Beach

Grew up going to PC, and went a lot until recently. Great fishing, crabbing, surfing, and the Sportsman has great bar food and reasonable pints.

Has anyone been to Brookings?

Banana belt of the Oregon coast. Some good hiking areas and sea lions. Not a lot of sandy beaches. Mostly ex-Californians living there which bloated the housing prices.

The best climate of the beach towns.

I've only been through it a few times, wasn't impressed with the town.

Yachats, Astoria and Depot Bay in the off season. In the summer I love the dunes near Florence and Rockaway for digging razor clams. Newport for deep sea fishing.

Worst blight at the beach would be the casinos. If you're at the coast and actually feel the need to visit a casino for entertainment, you might need some serious therapy.

Bandon Dunes

A friend of mine from childhood owns Gracie's Sea Hag in Depot Bay. Good food and local atmosphere.

Are there other casinos at the Oregon Coast besides Chinook Winds? That place is weak, though I did see Tonya Harding box there.

There is Chinook Winds and Spirit Mountain Casino. Personally I like Chinook Winds better because all the high rollers go to Spirit Mountain and the tables can get really crowded at Spirit Mountain as well.

Cape Meares is another great area for clamming.

As is Siletz Bay at the south end of Lincoln City.

Years ago I lived in Lincoln City and worked in Newport. Best commute in Oregon.

When he said casinos (plural) at the beach, I was asking if there was another casino at the beach. Spirit Mountain is on the way to the beach, but it's certainly not at the beach. Anyone who goes to the coast or watches any Blazer game knows SM exists.

At some point I think we will see a casino go in that is closer to the Portland area.
