You'll want to learn the Hawaiian Shacka before you go. Instead of waiving like we do in the States they like a Shacka!
Actually, among Hawaiian men, the current hand gesture for 'Aloha' is what we on the mainland call flipping the bird. In Hawaii, extend both middle fingers and hold them vertically, parallel to each other, then alternately move them both towards and away from your body, to say hello to a Hawaiian. It feels a little odd to us, but give it a try, it totally delights young men in Hawaii that you 'speak their language' and you will surely receive a warm welcome.
