This thread is not premature at all.

Please keep in mind that John Williamson is dead, so he cannot give LeBron permission to take his number down from the rafters.

I really don't mind if LeBron didn't sign with us because we will have a brand new arena in a large city with plenty of cash so either way we are okay lol.

I believe a retired jersey is a retired jersey. Jordan made his mark on that number so why can't LeBron make another number world famous?

didnt he wear 32 in high school? lol thats retired too nvr mind... he should wear 00 double zeros cuz hes double the arenas

There is no question that he should pick a new number. A retired number is a retired number and is in honor of a player who made a significant contribution to the franchise and it worthy of being remembered forever. Even if offered the number, Lebron should have enough respect to decline the invitation and pick a new number.

What's funny about that?

I'm spending the next year and a half talking about this like it's already happened!

Lebron should wear 40. Because that's how many ppg he's gonna average when he gets to Brooklyn.

And that's what I'm gonna drink when he signs, too!

I could see LeBron having the giant nuts to ask Dr. J for permission to take down his number.

It's what makes LeBron LeBron!

Thats why hes my favorite Net.

Wacky ol' Lebron

I always thought it was idiotic that he wore 23. 23 is Jordan. Make your own legend, asshat.

How about 17? I can't recall any famous #17s. He could pioneer the number.

I agree... never understood why he decided to walk in the shadow of MJ.

He can always add them together 2+3=5... uh oh. Nah Kidd's #5 should be retired at some point.

I'm sure they'll come up with a number and Nike will make a fortune off of it.

Some pics show his Team USA number as 9 and others show 6. Actual game pictures with him wearing the jersey have it as #6.

Won't be a problem... ( hope
)

In all honesty he should never have worn #23 in the first place - that's a lot of what created all the hype. He should have just used a new number that he could make legendary by himself. As it stands, the #23 will only every truly be associated with MJ, as he was the man who really made it legendary. LJ missed a trick there.

Choose another number. It's Super John's number, and he's dead... a total disrespect to the family by James AND the Nets if he took that.

If he wants the Jordan theme, go with 9.

If there was an absolutely not, no way in h*ll that would have been my vote--if you're truly a Nets fan, do some research on Super John especially the 4th quarter of the last game of the 1976 championship series--LaBron may never come close to what Williamson did in that game which arguably may be the greatest game in Nets' history!

Is there a Net who wore 45?

what should our team name be then? I don't like Brooklynnettes. Maybe the Brooklyn Please Sign With Us LeBronners?

Roc-A-Nets

Either 9 or 19

10^9 is a billion and LeBron is aiming to be a billionaire.

Bah, Havlicek stole the number.

What about 5? Can't think of any famous 5s. Not any, ever. None at all. 0. No-one else.

Yep, LeBron could be the greatest #5 in franchise history.

He could wear his Olympic number, 6. It beats Travis Best wearing that.
