Agree, city girl here. But in a house with big kitchen and garden, and with space around it

Do like water, maybe vacation home in Santa Barbara near favorite cousin.
If I had the money I'd live in Sausilito on the water. 2nd choice would be Mercer Island on the water. Next comes Lake Oswego on the water. So, now I live farther on down the list in Lake Oswego not too far from the water.

wut?...you plan on being divorced by then?

take it from a man of experience, if both you and your wife are retired, you actually want a big house....one big enough to allow you to hide and dodge. In fact, a big house with several outbuildings is best....a couple of workshops; an extra garage; an exercise room; a tractor shed; a wood shed; an RV port. Cover your property with buildings, walls, and doors with locks. Ratchet up that square footage for peace of mind.

when dealing with women, a gender genetically disposed to be relentless in building a "better" mate, the path of least resistance is the best policy. But that policy is impossible in less than 2000 square feet
My wife and I have retired to a 2,700 square foot home and it's too small at times when my wife wants me to hear about all of my faults apparently of which there are quite a few.

Smaller and better tasting. Many places you can get a tasting platter with a variety of different regions, and you can see the difference.

Kushi is generally my favorite
Never had Kushis that I can recall. I'll have to try them but they'd better be good or else.

Do a tasting at Walrus and the Carpenter in Ballard if you ever get a chance

Never had fresh oysters from the west coast...wonder how they differ, if at all, from the ones on the east coast/gulf coast?
Try Fanny Bays. That's the name of a bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and it's the name of an oyster company. Their oysters taste like the ocean smells. Love them. They are my second favorite oyster on the half shell that I've ever had. Can't recall the best because I only had them once. The best might possibly have been the Kushis that someone in here recommended.

A few tips:
  1. Make sure your oysters on the half shell are the smallest size they've got;
  2. Have a carbonated beverage with them. We usually have beer with ours but I once had a very expensive bottle of champagne with ours and it complimented the oysters even better than the champagne;
  3. Make sure your oysters come from a restaurant that shucks them good. nothing worse than getting oyster shell in your mouth when slurping one of those babies;
  4. Try Fanny Bay. They are awesome.
  5. Oysters on the half shell are best when served on a bed of crushed ice;
  6. For those who've never had them, try a couple beers on an empty stomach first and then they'll go down easy. This is for first timers;
  7. My favorite condiments are: cocktail sauce, lots of lemon juice, some horse radish sauce, especially fresh grated, a dash of tobasco ssauce.

I lived in Marin county and spent plenty of time in Sausalito, (I lived in San Anselmo) - Marin county is beautiful, but the geography and when it was built means that you are living in The 21st century in a place that has the infrastructure for the 1950s, even if one can afford it, it is pretty miserable to commute or go get groceries there. I liked the people a lot and how it looked, but I was very happy that we left in 2013 or thereabout

I'm retired and do precious little commuting. Besides, why would any retired person want to commute in Sausilito?

Mercer Island your neighbors would include Jody Allen and Jeff Bezos. Town must have impressive tax base.

Probably the wealthiest place in Washington. They have their own private security force and homes on the lake to die for. My lead engineer used to live there. He was once the director of Sky Lab, if you remember that. Went from the LA area to Boeing where he started as a fourth level manager. Worked his way down to third, second, first and then lead engineer. Son of a bitch stabbed me in the back. My boss saw what was going on but his hands were tied by upper management. Last time I talked to that boss and after I was transferred to work on airplanes, my ex boss said this creep was demoted from lead engineer to just plain engineer. Anyhow, this creep lived in a beautiful home on Lake Washington on Mercer Island. He took ski trips to Switzerland.

He was snowing you. "The" director of Skylab would have been almost the Associate Administrator of NASA. Maybe he was "a" director in the Skylab program.

I need to be near a major airport. I like to travel too much to be locked out in Bend or some shit.

FWIW....Redmond has a nice airport about 15-20 minutes from Bend.

Direct flights to:

United: DEN, LAX, and SFO

Delta: SEA and SLC

Alaska: LAX, PDX, SAN, SEA, and SFO

American: PHX

Allegiant: LAS and Phoenix/Mesa Gateway

Hence, the private security force.

I'd take anywhere they'd put up with me. That means the house next door to Sly is out.

I'm going to start replying to your posts with songs...

How was I the only one to choose Mt. Hood? Give me timberline lodge and I'd be happy!

Sorry bro, I live that international life. #NoLayovers

Last time I went to Portugal, TAP had a big strike that fucked everything up. I flew British Airways but, probably staying away from TAP.
