Games 1 and 2, we had a great plan. Post up JJ Barea because he's a midget.

Well, that backfired, because every time he gets posted up, his head is at our guards' shoulders. So when any of our guys turn their shoulders to spin towards the basket, they wack him in the head, even though it's more a consequence of him being short than us committing a penalty.

They didn't call those in game 3, and it made a HUGE difference.

Whether or not they call those the next game, and more importantly, once this series goes back to Dallas and they got home-cookin going on, will have a huge impact in the tempo, and ultimately, whether we win this series.

Yeah because that's all that little bastard can do.... draw fouls.

They called one when Rudy posted him up. Rudy even turned away. Berea flopped and got the call. But you are right in that the refs looked harder at his flops. Dirk got a few flop calls and Terry got one. It's still a problem and could turn the series.

There was also one that they called (on Miller?) that they then reversed. I firmly believe that the crowd had an influence on that one.

And he has no neck which freaks me out. He might be 6 feet tall if he had a neck. Seriously though, he gets away with a lot of shoving grabbing and pushing just because he is small.

With about 4 minutes left, LMA misfired to Roy on an entry pass out of a timeout. I replayed it a few times, and each time Barea had two hands on Roy's back. That's supposed to be an automatic foul on the defense on an entry pass, and I hope Cho sends that one to the NBA. It was almost a critical turnover, and it should have been a foul, literally by the book.

It isn't so much that he gets hit in the head when our guy makes a normal move, it's that as soon as the little bastard is posted up, he leans in and puts his face into our guy, then flops back like he got hit by Mike Tyson. Before this series I just thought he was a gnat. Now I can't stand him.

They should just get rid of the refs. Players call their own fouls. Each team gets 2 airsoft guns.

I agree with this as well. In the first game, he had an obvious offensive foul when he plowed into Rudy -- foul Rudy. Less than a minute later he was posted up, flopped big time -- foul Blazers. The NBA is so frustrating sometimes.

Our bigs like Rudy and mills need to protect against that flopper. I want him floored next game!

Shit, I want somebody floored. There were several plays in that game that just begged for a hard foul. Someone on the Blazers needs to learn how to deliver one, or we need to sign someone this summer who will. This is the playoffs, dammit. Nice guys finish last.

Red Auerbach would have had Mills start a fight and get both thrown out. (Mills could be compensated for his fine with an easy summer job.)

That guy used to be Juwan Howard.

Dallas flops a lot in general. I thought this was playoff basketball but apparently playoff basketball has turned into touch football if your the Mavs.

His moves are driving me batty as well. The NBA officiating is so wack.

If your were playing pickup games, and tried that shit, you would be sent to the dentist so fast.

There is NO sticking you face in someone's "space", and then getting away with calling "foul". You would be laughed off the court. Your own teammates would tell you to fuck off.

Yet, somehow, this "move" is rewarded in the NBA. Barera is usually invading the space of our players. That is a blocking foul.

It's frustrating, but true: how the refs call this ONE type of play will have a huge impact on the series.

We're not even talking about Dirk or Roy or starters... we're talking about a mediocre backup PG.

Frustrating.

Re: Whether or not the refs call offensive fouls for JJ Barea will influence this ser

I had a thought about this last night.

In the pregame, Mike&Mike mentioned the refs, as they do every game, however they also mentioned the backup ref who was somewhere else onsite, should he be needed.

I'm wondering if that ref was able to watch the game live on TV to see how blatant JJ's flops really were? If so, does he have access to his fellow refs since he's part of the 'team' at halftime, and does he have the ability to report on stuff like that to them?

I know the refs review things at halftime themselves, but I feel like hearing how obvious a few of those were from a peer would have more impact than simply seeing it on replay...

Anyone have any knowledge on if this is possibly why the drastic change?

Check out Dirk. He puts his hand on LA's back every time he guards him. It drives me nuts because it's NEVER called.

Well, they learned pretty boy pussy football from Dallas' other franchise.

Yes, I saw that too. Pissed me off.

He doesn't just put his hand there, he pushes off. He pushes on offense. He pushes on defense. It's never called. It's maddening.

What is sad is that the flopping never will happen in a pickup game, and really players do a pretty good job of calling their own fouls. The peer pressure keeps you in line for the most part.

I know. Barea's got some skills, but it's ridiculous that he can throw his head into someone's back and when they back him down he can throw his head back like he just got hit with an uppercut from Mike Tyson's punch out. That isn't basketball. Damon Stoudamire didn't have to resort to that.

Barrera = Benny according to Kobe.

Re: Whether or not the refs call offensive fouls for JJ Barea will influence this ser

Simple solution: Next time someone posts Barea up and he tries leaning in with his face, spin hard with an elbow extended and track his damn head off! Take the potential flagrant and happily move on, knowing the defense will be softer next time down. And you might even be able to argue it isn't deserving of a flagrant, given that it's nor your fault his head is where your elbows are supposed to be.

Yeah, that's a foul too. One arm is allowed, but only if it is the forearm, and not the hand. Barea is fouling on every post-up, though, and there is no way the NBA can deny it.

I wonder if Platypus, HailBlazers, or Sly know my feelings on Barrea ;)

If they call the flop for the little shit, Dallas might as well put Barea on LaMarcus in the post. LaMarcus' ass pounding the midget's face would be an offensive foul.
