You can't start a player that has to walk onto the team bus wearing a tiny pink backpack...

I think it'll be Brogdan and Ant to start and by the deadline it'll be Scoot and Ant. Brogdan is reigning 6 man of the year...Scoot has played 2 seasons in the G league. Chauncey will probably run with the vets but stagger the guards so Scoot and Shaedon get more minutes throughout a game. I think they start Matisse as well.

I haven't heard anything, but I truly believe Brogdon is NOT in our future plans.

Billups spoke about Malcolm briefly in his interview. Said there was value in having a veteran that can show you and not just talk. With our youth, it would not be a bad thing to have a veteran in the rotation.

However, there are only a limited amount of minutes. I see a trade as well.

Who on this team tells Scoot he is doing the normal rookie hazing BS?

Grant? At least he'd know his bag would be trendy if it was.

Brogdon was a backup point guard. Nobody would say he's a star.

To me, it would be sending the message "I'm not fit to coach" by Billups if he starts Brogdon over Scoot.

So if he starts a guy that he deems most ready to play PG on both ends of the court which it's a very reasonable assumption Brogdon is, then Chauncey's not fit to coach?!? Brogdon started every game he played in for the previous four seasons before he went to the Celtics and won sixth man of the year. One of those seasons was a 60 win season with the Bucks. I'm not saying Brogdon is an all star, I'm saying he is easily a starting level PG in this league and there is no guarantee that at 19 years old Scoot is at that level.

I actually want to start Scoot and Shae but if they're just going to go off of who earns it, I would bet that Brogdon would beat out Scoot.

Brogdon and Skylar Mays play almost exactly alike and are about the same size.
Start the season with Brogdon off the bench, then Mays can move into the backup unit seemlessly.

But more importantly, the Blazers need to get the Scoot to Ayton connection going ASAP.
It would be dumb to change Ayton's PG halfway through the season.

Well, at least you are consistent. You were relentless last year with Shae. This is not a criticism, though I do disagree with you.
I just don't see the need to worry whether he starts or not.....as long as he is getting 25+ minutes he will end up playing with everyone.
He just needs to get enough minutes to develop. It doesn't matter if he starts or comes off the bench.

Which point guard do you think Ayton would prefer? I bet he'd prefer Scoot by a mile.

Scoot doesn't need to Develop. He needs Experience. Experience as a starting point guard in the NBA.

By a mile over Brogdon? I think Ayton would be happy either way. Malcolm is very good at throwing lobs.
And no I don't think Scoot needs experience starting. Who cares about that? Being in the game during crunch time is what is important
and that will be determined by how he plays each game.

I would be VERY surprised if its not Scoot and Ant, I feel like the only real question mark is will Grant be at the 3 or 4 and who will start next to him at the wing.

Fwiw the rumor from josh Lloyd was that the plan as of last spring was to have sharpe step into the starting role this season. Obviously getting scoot maybe changes that but that was where their heads were at a few months ago.

Sharpe vs Thybulle......I have gone back and forth on this and have come to the conclusion it makes no difference. But Thybulle is the right call if they want to get Ayton, Grant, and Ant all touches early. Sharpe will still get more minutes than Tisse.

I actually think that Sharpe is at his most dangerous when he is playing the Brandon Roy role, he is a PG and the fulcrum of the offense in all but name, so getting him to be that guy is the most important thing for his development at this point. I think it makes more sense to do that in the 2nd unit at this point.

Roy was a shooting guard. He does need to ball in his hands to create but that doesn't make him a pg. imo

Roy was the de facto PG of Portland's offense. Sure, on paper, Blake was the PG - but if you look at the USG% in a random year (I chose 2008-2009 randomly), Roy had a USG% of 27.4%, Blake was at 17% - Roy was a much bigger part of initiating the offense than Blake was. Blake was more of a PG on defense, but Roy the offensive fulcrum of the team, just like Jokic is the offensive fulcrum of the Nuggets.

Plus the fact refs often call more fouls early in a game to set the tone. I would hate to have Sharpe get in early foul trouble-guarding someone like Kawhi and be sent to the bench. Thybulle on the other hand gets more respect from the refs.
