The Blazers and T-Wolves look to be competitors for one of the last playoff spots in the West. Which roster is better?

Blazers. And it's not that close.

At least not as close as some analysts make it seem.

You know if the T-Wolves can stay healthy all season I would tend to disagree.I still think the Blazers have the edge but I think (Again Healthy all season) the T-Wolves have a pretty damn good team.

its too early to say i guess, but im gonna be a contrarian and say i like minnys team on paper

their #1 picks this year are 3rd stringers and ours (cj) is expected to play quite a bit, to show their depth comparatively

and eblazer, if you want to see greg oden cock picks you can just search for them yourself, no need to bait tpups fans into doing it for you

Dieng and Muhammad are either better than Turiaf and Brewer or they are horrible and were wasted picks. Their first round picks being listed as third string does not show they have more depth.

This. I'm just not impressed by anyone/anything on their bench. I think we're writer at most positions for starters. And I just don't like their bench at all.

Those teams look the same but are set up quiet differently. If you just want to look at starters, then the only spot the wolves have us at an advantage is the C every other spot is about on par or were better at. Then you look at depth and thats when it gets to the meat of the problem. Muhammod/brewer/Barea/Shavd/Williams vs Mo/Wright/McCollum/Robinson/Leonard. Both benches have two proven bench players (Barea, Brewer vs Mo, Wright) then its a bunch of rookies/second year players on both sides, well D.Will is a third year player but still very raw.

Minny wins PF and Center (I am one of the few it seems who prefers LaMarcus' overall game and team impact over Love, but I'm willing to call it a toss-up, and they have us beat at backup PF).

Blazers win PG and SF, and it's not close.

I'm giving the overall edge at SG to the Blazers.

Blazers > Minny.

Also, the sun will come up in the morning.

Their starters are VERY weak defensively, and that's 50% of the game. We have a huge advantage defensively at every starting position except PG.

The problem with looking at line ups in terms of depth charts is it ignores things like small line ups featuring 3 guards and players that play multiple positions. For example, Mo Williams will back up both guard spots, and LaMarcus Aldridge is our best back up center. Because Wes has shown he can guard small forwards, we can play Wes, Mo and Damian together. Our players, both starters and bench, are a lot more versatile than theirs.

This versatility also helps when battling injuries. If Wes gets injured, we can slide Nic to SG and start Dorrell at SF, or leave Nic at SF and start Mo at SG - depending on the match up. Because we have so many players that can play multiple positions, we are better equipped to handle injuries than they are.

Ignoring health issues, our starters are better and our key bench players are better. I'd take our top 8 over their top 8 any day of the week, and those are the guys who win and lose games.

I think they have a pretty big advantage at C and we have a pretty big advantage at SF... the rest is pretty close. I think that Rubio is more likely to be an effective distributor, so if both Lillard and Rubio have a full (and talented) team around them then Rubio should be better (whereas if both teams are missing guys and need points, Lillard is superior).

I don't see a big difference overall. Other than, historically speaking, health.

Ed O.

The last time Minny had a better season than us was when they had KG. I don't see why this season will be any different than the last 7

A PG can be great by either scoring, passing or defense. Rubio is excellent, perhaps the best in the game in two of these areas while Damian is great at only one.

Chase Budinger is a solid defender he was injured last season. The Wolves could be a surprise team if they put a few things together this year but I still strongly prefer our roster to theirs. Kirilenko was their best player last season his departure is being underestimated.

I think it'll boil down to what becomes of Robinson/CJ and Shved/Bazz. Right now, I give the PF and C spots to MIN. Everything else tips our way. If Rubio stays healthy all year that'll make things tighter. Robinson can easily become better than Williams/Cunningham - but will he? What if Bazz or Shved come out blazing?

LMA = Love
Lopez < Pek
Nic > Budinger
Wes > Martin
Lillard > Rubio

Robinson < Williams
Robinson < Cunningham
Leonard < Turiaf
Freeland < Dieng
Wright = Brewer
Claver < Bazz
CJ > Shved
Mo > Barea
Barton, Crabbe, Watson > Nobody (haha)

Robinson and Leonard will be better than Williams/Cunningham and Turiaf easily.

Turiaf is awful.

If they stay healthy, they're better, partly because of Adelman. But that seems very unlikely. But boy, they'll have to score a lot to outscore the teams playing them.

Here's a question: who's the best player overall from the combined rosters?
Here's another: if you could construct a starting five from the resources of both rosters combined, what would it be?
(Having said that, I'm not sure what the starters would be, but I think Rubio, Lillard, Love and Aldridge would play in crunchtime, but who's the fifth?)

Is that a joke?

Rubio is a hell of a passer and a great defender. He'd probably be our teams best defender. Last year he was recovering from an ACL injury and playing with fill in teammates. His passing was more amazing his rookie year with better team talent.

Yeah those would be the 4 best players I think you clearly have to take them. So as a result of the positions those four play you really need a wing to pair with that group; by default either Mathews or Batum gets the nod.

I actually think so too, but until they actually SHOW it they aren't. Right now Williams, Cunningham, and Turiaf have all proven to be able to play NBA basketball. I very much think Robinson will prove to be better than all of them, and will do so with just a couple months of play, but he hasn't yet. I wouldn't be surprised for Leonard to become better...but I also wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen this year.

Definitely Nic.

PG - Rubio
SG - Dame
SF - Nic
PF - Love
C - LMA
