Whining about one of the few people around here not whining.

double yay.

his post was stupid. i think we already knew what he said. we're just giving honest assesments of what transpired today, which is supreme disappointment.

oh look, its not raining. rep me dammit!

Yeah. Just let it bake, bro.

haha, I guess some guys around here aren't tired of missing the playoffs and/or getting bounced in the first round.

I'm happy our team is coming together, but damn I'm so sick of people saying wait another 2-3 years

Get used to it. This year we had the built-in excuse of Martell's injury and "no good offers for RLEC."

Next year it will be something else.

"Teams were reluctant to take our offers because of the economy."

"We added more rookies to the lineup who need time to develop."

"We think there are some big names we can go after in the summer of 2010."

"We're not ready to challenge the Lakers, Spurs, Cavs, Celtics."

Just wait. I guarantee you you'll hear some excuse at this time next year for not making any significant additions between now and then.

why is losing in the first round now unacceptable? that was the goal going into the season and should still be the goal. teams don't go from being out of the playoffs to winning it all in one season without major shakeups and that is very rare. there is a progression to this and you can't just skip the steps and win now. there was no one out there that was going to make us a contender this season, so why do it? from the beginning it sounded like they wouldn't make moves unless someone blew them away, obviously they didn't get blown away?

some of you need to back away from the keyboard and get some air.

Getting ousted in the first round will not be a failure. But failing to be competitive in the first round will be a huge disappointment and will do nothing for the growth of the team.

I fear if we end up in the 7th-8th seed, we're staring down the barrel of a sweep.

Thanks, I like you too, and all of my posts are purely motivated by theoretical rep. If you're always looking for something to complain about, you'll probably find something. Right now, it just happens to sunk to the level of dissing on a thread.

If you had an attractive wife, but Jessica Alba asked you to marry her, would you do it? Hell yes you would!

Okay, so you kick your high-school sweetheart and soulmate to the curb and go off and bang Jessica Alba for a few months. After about a year the novelty of it has worn off and you realize the relationship is purely sexual. You start to think you made a mistake. You're complete opposites. Then Jessica dumps you for some movie-star douchebag. After a weekend long drinking binge you try to call your ex-wife, but you just make a fool of yourself and she gets a retraining order. A year later you hear she's happily married and your drinking problems get worse. You finally decide to put a bullet in your head and end the misery. Your last thought is how good you had it with your ex, but for some reason you thought you could be happier than happy.

It was worth it.

So, in summation:

A) KP is a genius, but we have no assets anybody wants in a trade.

B) These same players who nobody else wants will win a title if we just "let it bake."

Yeah, exactly. you nailed it

because none of us know what was talked about. We can only assume that reported rumors have some amount of truth to them, and we can only rely on things that KP has said ("I must have sent over 1,000 emails to Paul Allen in the last week about specific deals", etc.) to determine whether or not anything viable was on the table.

So your saying we should jump to conclusions...

I'm just glad you're being honest with yourself.

I'm disappointed that Portland didn't get a very good player for a cheap price. What is your opinion on what caused that result, that there were wonderful deals out there and Pritchard is too stupid and/or hateful of his own team to take them?

I'm not rationalizing anything. Based on past performance, I believe Pritchard is at least competent. If this competent GM, knowing all the things we know, didn't make a deal, the simplest explanation seems to be that there wasn't a deal that he felt bettered the team's circumstances.

What about that position do you find dubious or BS?

First of all, a number of people have gone well beyond that POV. If you wade thru the various threads, you will find quite a few comments along the line of "I'm glad we didn't trade for Wallace/Butler if it would have meant giving up Batum!" Sorry, but those kinds of arguments are silly rationalizations.

Second, I have my doubts about how KP defines a deal that "bettered the teams circumstances." I really hope KP didn't walk away from good deals just because he was determined to take nothing less than a slam dunk. I also hope he didn't walk away from deals just because the player was "too old". Adding a vet might not win us the title this season....but it might help the youngsters grow up faster.

What is silly is this entire thread. Arguing about something you have no knowledge of is irrational. Its like seeing two homeless guys on sixth street arguing.

Are you saying that a deal would have made the team a title contender? What deal specifically was passed on that does puts this team over the top?

Wallace would have made us a title contender next year, and a serious 2nd round threat this year.

Wallace has played exactly 52 minutes of playoff basketball in his 7 year career and hasn't even reached the playoffs as a starter.

I've mostly stayed away from this board today to avoid the "sky is falling" posts. How can you be upset? KP built this team from virtually nothing, is one of the most respected GM's in the league, had the term "Pritch-slapped" coined for him...and even though we don't know any specific details of the trade offers made, many are pissed because he didn't make a move. Thats crazy!

Raef LaFrentz Expiring Contract + Insurance kicker. Sorry, when we've all been hyping this up for the last 8-10 months as a valuable asset and we just let it do nothing, people are going to be pissed.

But you don't know what was offered to us for it. Do you like what KP has done in the past? If so, then why do you not trust him all of a sudden? I believe, with the limited info I have as a fan, that KP did the right thing because his track record is spectacular.

Obviously, i don't as I started a "Fire pritchard" thread for the Zach trade.

It's still a valuable asset because the team only pays 20% of it and keep extra cashflow in the budget. How many times do I have to post this before you acknowledge it?

Yeah, and amazingly, you are coming off as even more ignorant now as to what being under the cap means in this climate.

What, based on the current state of the US economy? Overrated IMO. I'll believe it when I see it, I think banking on this kind of leverage is pretty foolish as we had something better than cap space...a HUGE expiring contract that is being paid 80% by insurance.

Sorry for not remembering every thread you started on a different forum under a different name. But even if you disliked KP before today, I think you are in the vast minority. Even so, you don't know what was offered for RLEC. How can you be mad that we turned down a deal, when you don't know what the deal was????

Oh, I acknoweldge it. It doesn't make our team better having Raef on our roster still...it just means we can make trades this summer for guys we could have obtained now, but instead, we'll have to send more talent back.

Because when you are sitting on a golden egg, you sell it, don't let it hatch into an ugly duckling.

Yep. More cash to help pay for a sell-off trade this summer that puts out minimal assets.

It's your fault for hatching the egg early. I'm putting you on ignore. You're my first, but you don't even bother to read factual posts.

Actually we'll have to put more in IMO. The expiring contract was larger and more valuable than the cap space we could free up. To get to 13 million, we'll just have to waive Blake, Outlaw and Frye with no compensation back. We had 13 million in RLEC.
