How do we know it's stupid? I'd rather keep him than to trade him for the return Detroit received for Drummond.
I'd have loved to have traded him for the return Detroit got for Drummond. At least we'd be under the luxury tax and wouldn't have to be facing repeater penalties next year.

Oh no! We're over the tax by a few mil. What will Jody do!?!? It's not your money. You'd rather save Jody a few bucks and be less competitive? Literally makes no sense. Detroit got an awful return.

You call what we're doing this season competetive? What would we have been sacrificing by dealing Whiteside for two smaller expirings and a 2nd?

On the flip side, were that deal to have occurred, we'd avoid the tax this year, opening up the reasonable possibility of going into the tax in a couple years if able to develop a contender without having to risk repeater penalties. Plus, Henson would actually be a more likely and viable candidate for re-signing this summer than Whiteside is.

Season has been trash but there has been some turn around since the Ariza trade.

Having a chance to make noise late in the season and the opportunity to re-sign Hassan at an affordable rate. Seems both of those are better than Jody saving a few mil and getting a worthless 2nd.

I don't think saving a few mil this season is relevant to future seasons and spending. If we're competitive in future seasons, I think Jody pays. Henson is God awful. Think Meyers Leonard levels of disappointing. I wouldn't pay him the minimum. I'd rather roll the dice on re-signing Hassan and if not, then we'll have opportunities to sign someone else with the cap space he and Ariza will offer.

So far all signs lead to Whiteside returning next season, but you wouldn’t think it reading this thread. He’s already on record saying not only does he want to stay, he’s willing to play minutes at a different position to accommodate Nurk. In the end it will most likely come down to money, it usually does, but considering the market, I like Portland’s chances. Idk why people are trying to get rid of the guy so bad. Remember, Olsheys first choice last summer was to keep Kanter and play “bully ball.”

I'm not worried about this summer, i'm a lot more worried about the summer of 2021 when Dames supermax and CJs max kicks in. 73 Million just for those 2 guys, and Collins extension. Jesus how do you wanna build a team ?

You seem miserable ALWAYS. Why do you even bother?

I think the deandre contract is a good baseline for Whiteside this summer. Jordan got 4/$39M. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Whiteside settled for a one year deal so he can hit the market in 2021 when there will be more money thrown around.

Personally i think they decided to keep him and that is why they dumped Skal. I also think they have talked to him and he has told them he will not only play here and sign here next year but he and Nurk both are willing to play inside of their roles. Might be different on different nights but in the end they both want to win. They both know Lillard is special. It's gonna take sacrifices to win a chip. This might be one of those sacrifices?

This would make sense, or they just couldn't find a trade partner and will dump his contract for space this summer.

But, as many others have said, I wouldn't mind playing bully ball with two big pick and roll receiving centers. The biggest problem I see with this is they both need Lillard on the floor to be at their best. We need to teach Trent Jr. how to run the PnR with Whiteside.

I think Whiteside and Nurk could even play together in DOSES. We see some teams play two centers from time to time. Philly with Embiid and Horford. Denver with Jokic and Plumlee. Phoenix with Ayton and Baynes. Plus they’re centers. Foul trouble and injuries are just part of the deal and Nurk is at his best in the 25-27 minute range, leaving 20+ for Whiteside.

Whiteside and Nurk would be about as bully as it can get. Not sure that they could both be on the court together against many teams, but what a tag team they would make at the 5 spot.

We just gave Whiteside so much more leverage in what could be a dry free agent summer. He and his agent have to know that Olshey has total egg on his face if he loses him for nothing, so I'd assume they'll make him pay a premium to retain him. Then, if we do overpay to keep him, and we can't make two slow-of-foot centers work together, he'll point the finger elsewhere.

That is my TrailBlazer wet dream.
Considering fouls and injuries, they would actually share the load.
That's your title.

to have leverage he needs someone in Fa that will give him more than the MLE. I don’t see that team at the moment.

Possible. Though if he's half as good as most people on here think, he should get $20m/year.

Let's say all he can get is the MLE elsewhere. He could still tell Olshey, he's taking a 1 year deal for the MLE elsewhere unless Olshey gives him big bucks. Then Olshey can either over pay him or tell him to kick rocks and have nothing to show for it.
