Who believes in Greg Oden?

I see a lot of doubters out there now. I find it amazing how quickly people get written off. This guy has all the tools to bring multiple championships to Portland. Most of you wont believe this but I want Portland to win more then u do. Greg has all the natural talent in the world, he just needs good coaching and guidance. Something I honestly don't think he is getting in Portland. I'm not saying KP has not tried giving him some guidance but I strongly believe he has put the wrong pieces around him for him to succeed. I hope this changes but I see no signs of it.

I believe in him. He shows shades of greatness with the lil things he does on the court. Nate may or may not be the guy to get this guy where he needs to be for this team to win titles.

I can think of a couple other coaches that would really help him and in the end would get the most out of Greg. Meaning, if there is anything there. They will get it out of him.

Pop is one of them.

My worry about Greg has always been one of a mental nature vs talent and skill. I think this kid can get really down and stop loving this game in a hurry if he doesn't dominate. He has all the raw materials to be an amazing talent, but does he have the mental toughness to be a star? To date, I'd say no!

I would seriously consider giving my left arm to get Poppovich in Portland. Easily a kidney. I like Nate OK (less then KP), but Pop would take us right to the ring like THIS SEASON. Ok 2011 at the latest but it would be a virtual lock health permitting. Back in reality though San Antonio would never let him go? When is his contract up again? Poppovich...:sigh:

IMHO Poppovich is the best coach in the NBA.

EDIT: Totally forgot to answer OP's question. People talk about having Oden's back? He has a life size tattoo of me on his back. GO = DPOY by 2012 at the latest

Sorry, I thought the question I was answering was "Who believes in Greg Oden?"

That was just a trap so he could start another thread that can turn into KP is the worst GM in the history of the NBA.

You and me both. Popps contract with the Spurs I think is good until 2011.

Here is the thing with him. If he got this roster. And he is able to turn Oden into something everyone had Greg projected at coming out of the draft. I could see Popp meeting or exceeding the total amount of titles that is owned and held as record by Phil Jackson.

Why? His system with the right guys is downright lethal. Go back to 1999 with David and Tim. That defense was STIFLING. Think about that same defense with Greg.

But even he doesn't get Greg where everybody had him depicted at when first coming out of the draft. He will still win a title or two with this roster. And Greg will be productive. And we will not have to worry about saying it was all for not with Greg

KP seems to be a pretty good salesman. I'd run if I saw him coming toward me on a used car lot. Maybe he can sell Pop on the prospect of a handful of rings with this Portland roster. But I just don't see Pop leaving S.A. :sigh:

Timmy is got to retire sometime. Popp and Kp have a hirstory from the University of Kansas and from the Spurs. From what I heard, Popp mentored and told KP that GO was the rigth choice out of the two of Durant and he.

Someone else stated not to long ago that Gregg owns a home in McMinnville that is he is a part owner of a winery out there. Dont know if that is true or not.

I just personally think this roster and Gregg Poppovich is a match made in heaven. And have ever since the day we took Greg with the number one draft pick. Even better than the Jackson/Bull Match.

It's hard to replace a coach who has been as successful as Nate in the win column. But I'd do it for Pop or Van Gundy. I think either would get a lot out of our lineup.

Id sign Nate to a longer extension before I gave any position to Van Gumby.

Jeff at most is a lateral move to Nate IMO.

JEFF VAN GUNDY= TITLE NATE= NW DIVISION CHAMPS........ LAIME STEP IT UP PORTLAND!!!!

Meh.. Van Gumby is strong in some areas and weaker in others. Regressing in some areas and gaining in others. I don't think it = Championships.

Furthermore, If you are going to replace Nate. Make sure you know for a fact its for an upgrade.

ROY IS CLUTCH I HOPE U LOVE BEING AVERAGE. TASTE IT ITS ALL U GOT WITH NATHANIEL.

No doubt. And Pop is probably the closest to a lead-pipe cinch you could get.

Greg is just too talented at his size to be a bust. The only thing I see that would derail his career is continual flukey type injuries. He already proved to be a force defensively when he can stay on the floor, and it'll just be a matter of time and feeling comfortable on the floor on offense before he gets into the 15-18 ppg range.

FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!1 AT HIS SIZE? DUDE U FAIL!

Yeah. This to me is a no brainer. And instead of Portland going out and spending a ton of money on free agents and other players. Invest your resources in a guy who can and will pull this whole thing together.

If Nate doesn't cut it that is.

YEAH BUDDY WHO WAS THE GM THEN? WAS IT YOUR BOY KP? UMMMMMMMMMMM NO!!!! FAIL!

Sorry to hurt your feelings, but I never once said that KP was the GM at that time. But he is credited for making those trades in 06 that got Portland both LaMarcus and Brandon Roy.

wait, I mean

SORRY TO HURT YOUR FEELINGS, BUDDY, BUT I NEVER ONCE SAID THAT KP WAS THE GM AT THE TIME. UMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, NO I DIDN'T! FAIL ON YOUR PART!!!!!!!!

etc etc.

I think the doubters are out there, because its difficult to see Durant tearing it up. I am a big time believer in Greg Oden.. I dont view him as someone who will dominate like Shaq or Hakeep or even David Robinson on Offense. But I do believe he will be every bit as equal as Dwight Howard on Offense as well as better on Defense. I see no reason why in 2 years Oden isnt averaging 18 and 14 with dominant defense.

My own doubting has nothing to do with Durant whatsoever. It is rather in reaction to what I've seen:

A bit Lazy or sluggish

No offensive moves (other than two-handed dunk)

Weak defensively (except the occassional blocked shot)

Fouls (no footwork)

No confidence

I realize that my doubts can also turn around, as his injuries set him way back.

I will however proclaim that if Portland does not hire a big man coach (a former Center, not a former PF) - someone like Alonzo Mourning? Kareem, etc. - I worry that Greg's progression could take years. And if he is injury-riddled (this season will tell us much!) then it will make it hard to "believe."

Patience is a must.

FAIL... he is credited? bye who? the homer fans? :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh: Its a joke. He was not the gm, he was a scout. if u want to live in fantasy land and give Kp all the credit then go right ahead. Cause I can't stop the Mike Barrett movement for the biggest homers in pro sports. *edited*

Pop could take this team to the top! I'd love to see Nate be able to do this......but I doubt it will happen with Nate at the helm.

With this stated, I don't believe that there are any other current NBA coaches (other than Pop) that I'd immediately swap Nate for.
