Who could we get for Frye and Outlaw?

Would you guys want to do that if we could get an upgrade at backup PF? Some kind of tough guy who will not take any ish from other teams. Who is out there like that? Aren't there any Charles Oakleys out there anymore? We need some balls on our team.

That is another reason why I think we need to play Bayless. He has balls.
 
Since none of us are NBA GMs and every team has different needs I have no idea what kind of value Outlaw and Frye have around the league as a package. Frye probably doesn't have much, and Outlaw a bit more, but if we're talking about getting a Carl Landry, Paul Millsap, Ryan Gomes quality type of four then I'd imagine we'd have to sweeten the pot a bit more. Frankly, I'd rather see the team go and get one of those bruising, hustle type players in free agency or through the draft at season end and instead focus on using trade-able assets + Raef to go out and get a starting small forward or an upgrade at point guard ... that is if any trades are made at all.
 
I would love to dump Frye and Outlaw. I've been watching Outlaw play for what, 6 years? The only thing that has changed in his game is his jumpshot, which is quite a bit improved. Other than that, I hate his game. It's just as raw and undisciplined as it was his rookie year.

I would give Pritchard the green light on this one. Whoever he brings in, I would be happy with.
 
I think the best way to get a bruiser backup PF is through the draft. Most of these guys were drafted in the 2nd round, the key is to find the next one, not trade for a current version, because soon enough he'll get a MLE level contract and possibly his motivation. With contract extensions coming up, even with Paul Allen, it'll be important to save money where you can. Studs and scrubs is the way to go, if you can get 10 minutes from a backup PF on a 2nd rounder/late first contract, you'll have more money to keep your stars around.

i'm not an outlaw fan, but that's ludicrous. every aspect of his game is vastly improved from his rookie year.

Are you joking? He doesn't rebound, doesn't pass very well, and doesn't seem to think on his feet. His game is all speed and athleticism. When his shot isn't falling, he contributes almost nothing.
 
Some other names to throw out there... Brandon Bass? Jason Maxiell? Jeff Foster? Chris Wilcox?
I like Bass' game for a backup PF, and if Dallas keeps falling, who knows. But right now, I'd rather stay put since we're winning.

He still may not be great at any of those things you listed, but he's improved in all of those areas.

Jordan Hill from Arizona would be a excellent choice if you were looking to go for PF in the draft.

I can't wait either but who said he was any kind of bruiser? He seems to be a really good offensive PF. But where is the indication he can rebound hard and block shots? And push people around?

Well than, your looking at Tyler Hansbrough, if your looking at this draft class. But, if i were the Blazers i would keep watching Freeland closely cause he if he doesn't come over next season, you may not ever seen him over here.
 
Chris Wilcox ? Hmmm, I have always thought he was underated. I would have liked to see him with us vs Boston against KG. A veteran who wouldn't back down ?? I like I like

The player I wanted THE most in last years draft, Westbrook is doing pretty darn good.

not arguing about his value. just pointing out the obvious that he has improved a lot since his rookie season. i remember he could barely put the ball on the floor without traveling, couldn't try to block shots without fouling etc.

That article makes him out to not have any offensive moves, but i find that he's got a quick first step and has pretty decent moves. Check out this video. BTW, Freeland is #19. http://acbtv.acb.com/video/992

I agree. Fez had showed me Joel's stats overseas. We need to bring this kid of next year.

The reality of it is; we aren't going to win it all this season, so let's just let our fruit get ripe.

Brandon Bass and Chris Wilcox will be URFAs this summer, I wouldn't break the bank to sign either of them, but if they could be had for 4-5 million a year, either would be a suitable banger type that could be counted on to fill 15+ minutes a game. Hell, maybe keeping Diogu and/or Shavlik around on a cheap contract isn't the worst idea in the world, although either is still pretty much mystery meat at this point of their careers.
 
does everyone hate my posts or what? Why sign the likes of Brandon Bass to 4-5 million a year when in all likelihood you can draft a similar player with a second round pick? How have Detroit, Boston, Utah, Dallas, and Houston all found solid backup PFs for next to nothing?
 
I still have to wonder why people consider Brandon Bass a "banger". He is the softest big body in the NBA.

Look at his stats.

He is not a good player, especially as a "banger".

I posted pretty much in support of your post. Brandon Bass is a borderline NBA player at this point. No clue why he is worth a Frye/Outlaw salary combo.
