Who does Collins remind you of?

Not even in the slightest. Two completely different players. Chambers was all offense, no defense. Collins has earned a spot in the rotation of a 50-win team as a 20-year old rookie based on his superior defensive fundamentals and instincts.

This is kind of like saying a young Dennis Rodman reminds you of Bernard King. Of course, Zach is already better offensively than The Worm, but you get my drift.

BNM
Right, but you can't compare players of different races, and there are only so many white guys to chose from.

Honestly, he reminds me a little bit like McHale. At least with his footwork.
He's not there yet - McHale practically invented the step through. And they definitely have different body shapes. McHale was all arms and legs and lumbered. Zach looks fairly normally proportioned, and is athletic. He's more like a taller Chandler Parsons.

Kevin McHale was a senior in college, Zach would be a Junior now.

Watching Zach Collins, I am trying to understand who he can be. So far, he reminds me of Tom Chambers, which ain't a bad thing at all. But I know there has to be a better comparison.

So who is it?

To answer the OP, I wouldn't say Chambers.

Chambers had no D.

I'm comparing his skillset to a raw Pau Gasol.

Meh...

TT has always been SOFT.

Zach has sharp edges. I love that.

Zach is a MUCH better defense than TT will ever be.

Zach's defense is what LMA's defense was SUPPOSED to be. He was a really good defender in college. He just stopped trying in the pros.

The first two years in the league KG was on the floor more times than up. That guy was the floppingist player outside of Lambeer. It was before the flopping rule era.

Actually now that I recall he fell a lot while trying to back a guy down and they would back off quick. He'd loose his balance and down he'd go. He was super young!

I think at 25 he will be Aldridge with D. His instincts are already there on defense and his offense will continue to get better each year, I think he has the ability to end up with a pretty sweet mid range jumper to go along with his excellent footwork on the block.

Aldridge was a damn good defender. He's underrated there. And he was all nba on offense. Not sure Zach has that.

It's why I say sheed as best comparison. Better defense than Aldridge, not as good of a scorer.

I think sheed had so much more natural talent than either Zach or LA. The only thing that held back sheed was he didnt want it bad enough, but that guy at least to me was one of a kind talent wise.

I just scoured the internet and his combo of defense skills and knowledge, athleticism, foot work, ability to hit the three, mean streak and just all around solid game really is unique. And whats even more unique is his potential to significantly expand those things. I've come to the conclusion that he really is his own comp. If I had to compare the closest I have seen mentioned here so far is AK47. But I definitely feel like he has the potential to expand his game way beyond that.

I see that comp a bit, but I think Collins plays better interior defense, and I think AK47 had better handles.

Properly motivated Sheed was better on offense than LA, his shot was unblockable and he could score from anywhere on the court.

I agree now, but I fully expect Collins to add weight(like Aldridge did) and become a lot more polished on Offense. Right now nothing is really ran for him, once he adds a mid range game, continues improving his 3, and gets more experience in the post I believe he will be equally effective on both ends.
