Roy only played, what, five years for the Blazers? I think Dame will most likely surpass him.

I loved watching Roy played. He needed to be selfish. They wanted him to be selfish. They told him to be selfish.

If Damian stays healthy, he will have more options to shatter anything Roy did. But I guess if he got hurt this season and never made it back, you would have to say Roy was better.

Here is to a long career for Dame. All with Portland.

Roy was a good guy and really competitive. But there was times that I'd see him pout. We were too enamored to really take notice.

LaMarcus has had a better career than Roy. This season he is playing at a level Roy never reached.

Roy was so-so on defense (Lillard is only marginally better at defense), and better from 18 feet and in. The offense was, partly due to his skillset, engineered around Roy. The teams with Lillard aren't Lillard centric.

Could he become a better player/figure in Blazer "lore"? Sure. Not sure he's there yet, but it's not like the gap is really that big anymore.

Sometimes it's hard to exclude how Roys career ended in Portland when thinking back, BUT it has to be included in the discussion.

Roy really only had 3 seasons where he was truly a great player, and even then he never got his team out of the first round. It's not like we are talking about Kobe or Duncan here.

Surpassing Roy is a relatively small stepping stone on (hopefully) a very long and successful career for Lillard. Damian has the potential to be an all-time Blazer great.

Roy isn't even like Bill Walton, where a short bright career and a championship immortalized him with greatness. Roy is a little more like Sabonis, or Oden, or Bowie--you spend as much time wondering about what might have been than anything else.
